1) Know About: National Mineral Development Corporation

  • National Mineral Development Corporation or NMDC is a government-owned mineral producer.
  • It is involved in the exploration of iron ore, copper, rock phosphate, limestone, dolomite, gypsum, bentonite, magnesite, diamond, tin, tungsten, graphite, coal etc.
  • It also operates the only mechanized diamond mine in the country at Panna in Madhya Pradesh.

2) RK Ranjan inaugurates first-ever floating photo exhibition

  • The first ever 3-day “floating” photo exhibition was organized by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting Central Bureau of Communication Regional Office, Imphal, Manipur, in Sept’22.
  • It kicked off at the Loktak Lake.
  • As many as 88 Manipuri language creatives of “Eight years of Seva,Sushasan, Garib Kalyan” and creatives of 11 unsung Manipuri freedom fighters are being displayed.

 

3) Know About: BrahMos Aerospace

  • The BrahMos Aerospace is an Indo-Russian multinational aerospace and defence corporation, with core manufacturing concentrations in Cruise missiles.
  • It is a Joint Venture between India’s DRDO (50.5%) & Russia’s NPO Mashinostroyenia (49.5%).
  • It is currently developing BrahMos-II, a hypersonic cruise missile.

4) Defence Ministry signs contract with BrahMos Aerospace

  • Defence Ministry signed a contract on 22 Sept 2022 with BrahMos Aerospace Private Ltd (BAPL) for acquisition of additional dual-role capable Surface to Surface BrahMos missiles.
  • These missiles will be acquired at an overall approximate cost of Rs 1700 Crore under Buy-Indian Category.
  • BAPL is a Joint Venture between India’s DRDO & NPO Mashinostroyenia of Russia.

5) Linda Fruhvirtova wins Chennai Open 2022 title

  • 17-year-old Czech tennis player Linda Fruhvirtova has won the 2022 Chennai Open title.
  • Fruhvirtova defeated Poland’s Magda Linette in the final and won her first career Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) singles title.
  • The 2022 Chennai Open was played between 12 to 18 Sept.
  • As part of the 2022 WTA Tour, it marked the return of a WTA tournament in India for the first time since 2008.

 

6) Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar inaugurates Lok Manthan programme

  • Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar inaugurated the third edition of the Lok Manthan programme on 22 Sept 2022 in Guwahati.
  • The 3-day event will have discussions, seminars, cultural events and exhibitions which will showcase the rich diversity of our nation.
  • The theme for 2022 is Lokparampara (Lok traditions).
  • The 1st edition of the Lokmanthan which focused on Desh-Kal-Sthithi was held in 2016.

 

7) REC gets ‘Maharatna’ company status

  • REC Ltd has been accorded with the status of a ‘Maharatna’ Central Public Sector Enterprise, thus giving it greater operational & financial autonomy.
  • Incorporated in 1969, REC is a non-banking finance company, focussing on power sector financing & development across India.
  • It comes under the Power Ministry.
  • It was earlier known as Rural Electrification Corporation.

8) International Day of Sign Languages: 23 September

  • On 19 December 2017, the UN General Assembly declared 23 September as International Day of Sign Languages (IDSL).
  • The day supports and protects the linguistic identity of people who are deaf along with other users of sign languages.
  • It was first celebrated on 23 September 2018 as part of the International Week of the Deaf (24-30 September 2018).
  • 2022 Theme: “Sign Languages Unite Us”.
