DAILY DOSE 22ND MAR CURRENT AFFAIRS
1) LAMITIYE EXERCISE: The Indian Army and the Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF) are holding the 9th Joint Military Exercise LAMITIYE-2022 at the Seychelles Defence Academy (SDA) in Seychelles from March 22 to March 31, 2022.
- This exercise will see the participation of an Infantry Platoon strength from both the Indian Army and the Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF), as well as Company Headquarters.
- The contingent of the Indian Army comprises troops fromthe 2/3 GORKHA RIFLES group (PIRKANTHI Battalion).
2) SURAJKUND MELA 2022 From the 19th of March onwards, the annual Surajkund International Crafts Mela will open its doors to a celebration of Indian folk traditions and cultural heritage.
- Surajkund Mela is the world’s largest crafts fair, showcasing the rich diversity of India’s handicrafts, handlooms, and cultural fabric.
- The Mela is a one-of-a-kind international artisan. fair that provides a platform for artists from all over the world to demonstrate their culture and creativity. The Haryana Tourism Department hosts the mela at Surajkund every year, and it has many interesting attractions for travellers of all ages.
3) F1 BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX 2022: Charles Leclerc (Ferrari- Monaco) has won the Formula One
- Bahrain Grand Prix 2022 at the Bahrain International Circuit, a motor racing circuit in the west of Bahrain.
- Carlos Sainz Jr. (Ferrari – Spain) came second while Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes-Great Britain) came third. This was the first Formula One race of 2022.
- World champion Max Verstappen clocked the fastest lap in the third and final practice session Saturday at the season opening Bahrain Grand Prix, with Lewis Hamilton over half a second behind in sixth place.
4) ‘SPORTS ICON AWARD: Former India cricketer Suresh Raina was felicitated with the prestigious Sports Icon’ award at the Maldives Sports Awards 2022.
- He was nominated alongside 16 international sportspersons, including former Real Madrid player Roberto Carlos, Jamaican Sprinter Asafa Powell, former Sri Lankan captain and cricketer Sanath Jayasuriya and Dutch football legend Edgar Davids.

5) BRAIN MAPPING: The Indian Institute of Technology Madras has launched a centre to generate and study human brain data. The centre plans to focus on high-resolution brain imaging and has an ambitious project to map human brain at the cellular and connectivity level.
- The institute has international collaboration network in brain mapping efforts in the U.S., the EU and Japan.
6) The United Nations’ (UN) International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is observed with a series of events and activities worldwide on March 21 each year.
7) PRESIDENT CONFERS PADMA AWARDS TO 54: India’s first Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat, who died in a chopper crash last December, was conferred Padma Vibhushan, the country’s second-highest civilian award, by President Ram Nath Kovind on Monday, 21 March.
- The Padma Awards are one of the highest civilian honours of India announced annually on the eve of Republic Day. The Awards are given in three categories: Padma Vibhushan (for exceptional and distinguished service), Padma Bhushan (distinguished service of higher order) and Padma Shri (distinguished service). The award seeks to recognize achievements in all fields of activities or disciplines where an element of public service is involved.
