1) Former Jharkhand Governor Syed Sibtey Razi passes away
- Former Governor of Jharkhand, Syed Sibtey Razi passed away on 20 August 2022 in Lucknow.
- He served as the Governor of Jharkhand from the year 2004-2009.
- Later he was also made the Governor of Assam.
- He was a member of the Rajya Sabha thrice.
- Razi started his political career in 1969.
- He was associated with the Congress party.
2) India’s first indigenous monkeypox test kit launched
- India has launched the first indigenously-developed RT-PCR kit for testing monkeypox disease.
- It has been developed by Transasia Bio-Medicals & was unveiled by Principal Scientific Adviser to the Central govt, Ajay Kumar Sood.
- The kit would help in early detection and better management of the monkeypox disease.
- India so far has reported ten cases of monkeypox.
3) Chandigarh airport to be named after Shaheed Bhagat Singh
- The Punjab and Haryana governments have agreed to name the Chandigarh. International Airport after Shaheed Bhagat Singh.
- The decision was taken during a meeting between Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann & Haryana deputy CM Dushyant Chautala.
- The Rs 485-crore airport project is a joint venture of the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the governments of Punjab and Haryana.
4) Govt launches 2nd phase of ‘Grameen Udyami Project’
- National Skill Development Corporation in partnership with Seva Bharti & Yuva Vikas Society on 20 August ’22 launched the 2nd phase of the ‘Grameen Udyami Project’ in Ranchi, Jharkhand.
- Aim: To augment skill training in tribal communities for their inclusive and sustainable growth.
- The project is being implemented in Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, & Gujarat.
5) Jharkhand: 1st state to use blockchain to distribute seed to farmers
- Jharkhand govt, in collaboration with the tech company SettleMint, has launched seed distribution to farmers based on blockchain technology.
- With this Jharkhand has become the first state in the country to implement blockchain technology in the agricultural sector.
- Objective: to enable the distribution of seeds and other schemes in a transparent manner.

6) Know About: GI Tags
- A geographical indication (GI) is a name or sign used on certain products which relate to a specific geographical location or origin.
- The GI tag ensures that none other than those registered as authorised users are allowed to use the popular product name.

- India now has more than 300 GI Tags.

7) Vijay Shekhar Sharma reappointed as MD and CEO of Paytm
- Vijay Shekhar Sharma has been reappointed as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of financial services platform Paytm.
- One97 Communications Limited (OCL) owns the brand Paytm which is India’s leading digital payments and financial services company and the pioneer of QR and mobile payments.
- The Paytm company was founded by Vijay Shekhar Sharma in 2010.

8) GMR launches Blockchain Centre of Excellence for airports
- GMR Group on 20 August ’22 launched a Blockchain Centre of Excellence (COE) for airports.
- It will provide access to the required infrastructure & labs to start-ups for the development & validation of solutions & services.
- It will also enable thought leadership, research, & training programs for upskilling in the field of blockchain.

9) Chhattisgarh govt to set up 300 rural industrial parks in the state
- Chhattisgarh govt will set up 300 rural industrial parks in the state to boost and strengthen the village economy.
- The project will be launched on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, 2022.
- In the first year of the project, there will be 300 such parks.
- Objective: to create a source of additional income for the rural poor families.

10) India and Australia conclude maritime exercise near Perth
- The Maritime Partnership Exercise (MPX) between the navies of India and Australia concluded on 20 August 2022.
- INS Sumedha participated with HMAS Anzac in this exercise.
- Indian Navy’s INS Sumedha was docked at Perth in Australia to celebrate India’s 76th Independence Day on 15 August 2022.
- Indian Navy also participated in a 5-day naval exercise ‘AUSINDEX’ with the Australian Navy in 2021.
11) India’s 1st indigenously built Hydrogen Fuel Cell bus launched in Pune
- Union Minister Jitendra Singh on 21 August 2022 launched “India’s first indigenously developed hydrogen fuel cell bus” in Pune.
- The bus has been developed by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and private firm KPIT Limited.
- The fuel cell utilizes hydrogen and air to generate electricity to power the bus.

12) Union government awards Gl tag to Mithila Makhana
- Union government has awarded Geographical Indication (GI) tag to Mithila Makhana.
- With this move, growers will get the maximum price for their premium produce.
- Over five lakh farmers of Mithila region of Bihar will be benefitted from this decision.
- Once a product gets the GI tag, any person or company cannot sell a similar item under that name.
- It remains valid for a period of 10 years.
13) Antim Panghal wins gold medal at U-20 World Wrestling Championship
- 17-year-old wrestler, Antim Panghal on 19 August 2022 became the first Indian woman wrestler to win the Gold medal at the U-20 World Wrestling Championship in Sofia, Bulgaria.
- She defeated Kazakhstan’s Atlyn Shagayeva 8-0 in the finale in the women’s 53kg category.
- Antim belongs to Haryana’s Hisar district.
- It was the 45th edition of the U-20 World Wrestling Championship.
