- Australia beat India by six wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad to lift the 2023 ODI World Cup trophy.
- The Aussies won the 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, 2015 and 2023 editions.
- Australia’s Travis Head was declared the Player of the Match in his side’s 2023 ODI World Cup final.
- India’s Virat Kohli has been named the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 Player of the Tournament.
2) Scientists discovered ‘Kill Switch’ to eliminate cancer cells
- Scientists from the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Centerin, California, have made a significant breakthrough by discovering a ‘kill switch’ that triggers the death of cancer cells.
- The researchers identified a protein on a receptor, known as CD95 receptorsor Fas, which can be designed to induce self-destruction in cancer cells when activated.
3) World Children’s Day 2023: 20th November
- The theme for World Children’s Day(20 November) for the year 2023 is ‘For every child, every right.‘
- World Children’s Day was firstestablished in 1954 as Universal Children’s Day.
- It is also the date in 1989 when the UN General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
- According to UNICEF, World Children’s Day is a day for children, by children.
4) COAS Gen. Manoj Pande visits Republic of Korea to foster relations
- General Manoj Pande visited the Republic of Korea.
- The aim of the visit is to further reinforce the robust defence ties between the two nations.
- The visit commences on 20th November,a momentous day in the history of India-ROK relations.
- On 20th November 1950, 73 years back, 60 Para Field Ambulance of Indian Army landed in Busan, to provide much-needed medical support during the Korean War.
5) U.P. has launched ‘Every Right for Every Child’ campaign
- The Uttar Pradesh governmentlaunched the ‘Every Right for Every Child’ campaign to ensure equal opportunities for students.
- Led byPower Angel and Bal Sansad, the campaign is centred around ‘equality and inclusion.’
- It includes daily activities in primary, upper primary, and Kasturba Gandhi schools until November 25.
- The campaign’s theme focuses on ‘Gender Equality’ and ‘Care and Support.’
6) ‘Dhoom’ Director Sanjay Gadhvi passed away at 56.
- Dhoom director Sanjay Gadhvi passed away at his Mumbai residence, on 19 November.
- He was 56 years old.
- Gadhvi made his directorial debut with Tere Liye in 2000.
- The director also worked on Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai in 2002, which was his first project with Yash Raj Films.
7) United Service Institution of India to organise Annual UN Forum 2023
- United Service Institution of Indiais organising its Annual UN Forum 2023 in New Delhi in November 21-22, 2023.
- The forum on ‘International Humanitarian Law and Peacekeeping’ is being organised in collaboration with the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Centre for UN Peacekeeping Operations.
- USI is India’s oldest think-tank established in 1870.
8) Africa Industrialization Day 2023: 20th November
- Every year on November 20th, Africa Industrialization Day is observed to raise awareness about the challenges of African industrialization.
- Theme: “Accelerating Africa’s industrialization through the empowerment of African women in processing for an integrated market.”
- On December 22, 1989, the United Nations General Assembly recognized November 20 as Africa Industrialization Day.
9) U.P. won the ‘best state’ award for inland fisheries
- Uttar Pradeshhas won an award for inland fisheries (plain areas) and will receive it at Global Fisheries Conference-2023 place in Delhi on November 21 and 22.
- November 21is also celebrated as World Fisheries Day.
- As of now, 31 projects are being implemented under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana in U.P.
- Fishermen Accident Insurance Scheme has benefited 1,16,159 fishermen in U.P.
10) Argentina elects ‘shock therapy’ libertarian Javier Milei as president
- Argentinians have elected Javier Milei as their next president, who is a self-proclaimed anarcho-capitalist.
- With 55.8% of the votes, Milei’s victory marks the widest margin since Argentina’s return to democracy in 1983, defying all poll predictions.
- His sensational rhetoric has drawn comparisons to former U.S. President Donald Trump.
11) PM Modi to grace Braj Raj Utsav in UP’s Mathura
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in the ‘Braj Raj Utsav’in Mathura on November 23 on the birth anniversary of Meera Bai.
- The Sant Mirabai Fest, marking her birth anniversary, will be celebrated prominently from November 23 to 25 during the Braj Raj Utsav.
- On the 23rd, a dance drama based on the life of Meera Ji will take place at the Railway Ground Fair, in Mathura.
12) World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims 2023: 19th November
- In September 2020, the UN General Assembly adopted resolution on “Improving global road safety”, proclaiming the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2021-2030.
- WHOand the UN regional commissions with other partners in the UN Road Safety Collaboration, have developed a Global Plan for the Decade of Action.
- Theme for 2023 is “Remember. Support. Act.”
13) Putin to participate in virtual G20 Meeting on November 22
- Russian President Vladimir Putin is set to participate in the upcoming virtual G20 leaders’ summit on Wednesday (Nov 22) after his absence from the in-person meeting held in New Delhi in September.
- Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov was the one who led the Russian delegation to the G20 summit hosted by India.
