1) India loses 1.5 million lives every year: FICCI-EY report

  • Road accidents claim around 1.5 million lives in India every year, contributing 11 per cent to the total number of such fatalities globally, according to a FICCI-EY report.
  • Globally, at least one life is lost every 24 seconds due to road traffic injury, said the report released.
  • It is the leading cause of death amongst youth and kids aged 5 to 29 years, it said.

 

2) Rajya Sabha brings gender parity nominates fifty percent women member

  • In a historic move, the Chairman, of Rajya Sabha, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar has nominated four women Parliamentarians to the panel of Vice-Chairpersons.
  • It is also noteworthy that all women members nominated to the panel are first-term Parliamentarians and Smt. S. Phangnon Konyak is the first ever woman from Nagaland to be elected as a member of the Rajya Sabha.

 

3) First ever Credit Guarantee Scheme for Livestock Sector launched

  • Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Ministry of Fishries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying is implementing the Credit Guarantee Scheme under Animal Husbandry Infrastructure Development Fund (AHIDF).
  • It will strengthen the credit delivery system and facilitate the smooth flow of credit to the (MSMEs) engaged in the Livestock sector without hassles of collateral security.

7) Gujarat to get country’s 1st ‘Satellite Network Portal Site’

  • Gujarat will get the country’s first ‘Satellite Network Portal Site’.
  • An MoU was signed between OneWeb and the state government in Gandhinagar for the establishment of the Satellite Network Portal Site near Mehsana.
  • The satellite network portal will be set up at two places in Jotana taluka of Mehsana district with an estimated cost of over Rs. 100 crores for Phase 1.

 

8) Ethiopia allows social media access after five months

  • Ethiopia has allowed people to access Facebook, Telegram, TikTok, and YouTube after five months.
  • The blackout was imposed on 9 February this year after tensions between the Ethiopian Orthodox Church and the government.
  • Only those with access to virtual private network (VPN) software could get on to the social media platforms, something that cost them additional data.

 

9) Harmehar Singh Lally, Sanjana Sood win silver medal in ISSF JWC

  • In shooting, India bagged one silver to stay in the second position of the medal tally on Day 4 of the ISSF Junior World Championships, in Changwon, Korea.
  • Harmehar Singh Lally and Sanjana Sood won a silver medal in the skeet mixed team event.
  • With that medal, India stayed in second place on the medals table with four gold, four silver and three bronze medals.

 

10) Indian Surf Team wins bronze medal at Asian Surfing Championship

  • Indian Surf Team won the bronze medal at the Asian Surfing Championship, held at Thulisdhoo Island in Maldives.
  • 18 countries from Asia took part in this championship.
  • The Surfing Federation of India sent a team comprising 4 senior Surfers in the men’s category and 2 Surfers in the Under 18 category. 5 out of the 6 Surfers were from Tamilnadu.

 

11) Malaysia honours Islamic scholar Kanthapuram with Hijra Award

  • Malaysia honored the General Secretary of All India Sunni Jamiyyathul Ulama and the current Grand Mufti of India, Kanthapuram Aboobakkar Musliar with its highest civilian honor, the prestigious Hijra Award.
  • Sheikh Abubakr, also known as Kanthapuram Aboobakkar Musliar received this award on the basis of his invaluable contributions to promoting the message of love in Islam within India

 

12) UAE leads the world in mobile internet speed in June

  • The UAE has ranked first globally in mobile internet speed for the month of June, with a download speed of 204.24 Mbps and an upload speed of 22.72 Mbps, according to the Speedtest Global Index published by Ookla.
  • According to the index, the UAE topped the global rankings during the first half of 2023 (January, February, March, May, and June), while it ranked second in April.

 

13) CM Yogi to gift Mukhya Mantri Khet Suraksha Yojana to all farmers

  • The Mukhya Mantri Khet Suraksha Yojana will now be implemented not only in Bundelkhand but in the entire state simultaneously.
  • The Yogi government has proposed an increase in the budget for the scheme from Rs 75 crore to Rs 350 crore in this regard.
  • Under this scheme, a solar fence with a current flow of only 12 volts will be installed to protect crops from animals.

 

14) Shah Rukh Khan features in ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 campaign video

  • Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan features in the new campaign video released for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup that is slated to be held in the country later this year.
  • The International Cricket Council (ICC) and The Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) have joined forces to unveil the new campaign titled “It Takes One Day” in Mumbai.

 

15) The first C295 military transport aircraft will be launched in 2026

  • The aircraft will be manufactured in the private sector under India’s first ‘Make in India’ aerospace program.
  • A factory will be set up in Gujarat’s Vadodara by November 2024, where the first India-made military transport aircraft, the C295, will begin production after 2026.

 

16) Indian Railways to start new trains for lower income groups

  • The Indian Railways is set to launch new trains aimed to help the labor class passengers travel with ease, the service is expected to operate from next year.
  • These are not special but permanent trains that are aimed to help the labor class passengers travel with ease.
  • The trains with Linke Hofmann Busch (LHB) coaches will have both sleeper and general class services
