1) Cricketer Hashim Amla announces retirement from all forms of cricket

  • Hashim Amla, South Africa’s second-highest Test run-scorer of all time, announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on 18 January 2023.
  • He scored 9282 runs in 124 Tests, second only to Jacques Kallis, hit 27 ODI hundreds, and scored a total of 18672 runs in all formats for South Africa.
  • He became the first and only South African batsman to score a triple century in Test Cricket.

 

2) Netherlands record biggest-ever victory in Hockey World Cup history

  • Three-time champion Netherlands registered a record-breaking 14-0 win over Chile to secure a direct qualification into the quarter-finals at the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup on 19 Jan 2023.
  • Australia previously held the record for the largest margin (12-0) of victory in a hockey World Cup match against S. Africa.
  • Netherlands’ Jip Janssen and Thierry Brinkman scored a hat-trick in the match.

 

3) PM Modi to attend all India conference of DGPS, IGPs on 21-22 January

  • PM Narendra Modi will attend the All India Conference of Director Generals/ Inspector Generals of Police 2022 in New Delhi on 21-22 January, 2023.
  • About 100 invitees including DGP of States/UTS and Heads of Central Armed Police Forces and Central Police Organizations will attend the Conference.
  • It will discuss a wide range of issues including Cyber Crime, Technology in Policing, etc.

 

4) Kyndryl India, IIT Tirupati tie up to advance Al-enabled 3D Printing

  • IIT Tirupati has partnered with Kyndryl India to advance research and promote innovation in Al-enabled 3D-printing technology.
  • The collaboration will focus on quickly developing cost-effective 3D prototypes for complex products in manufacturing.
  • The two organizations have already begun joint research and will be launching a series of thought leadership conclaves.

 

5) India to become $26 trillion economy by 2047: EY report

  • The Indian economy will become $26 trillion economy by 2047, the 100th year of its independence, according to an EY report released in Jan 2023.
  • As per report, the country’s per capital income would cross $15,000, making it among the top developed economies.
  • The report, India@100: Realizing the potential of a $26 trillion economy, was launched by Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

 

6) Mukesh Ambani is No.1 among Indians on Brand Guardianship Index 2023

  • Mukesh Ambani has been ranked No.1 among Indians and second globally on the Brand Guardianship Index 2023.
  • Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Reliance Industries Ltd’s Mukesh Ambani are ranked first and second respectively in the Index.
  • Microsoft’s Satya Nadella, who topped in 2022, is at number three.
  • Adobe’s Shantanu Narayen and Google CEO Sundar Pichai are ranked fourth and fifth.

 

7) Tourism Ministry participates in world’s largest Travel Exhibition

  • The Ministry of Tourism is participating in FITUR, the world’s largest international travel exhibition in Madrid, Spain.
  • Feria Internacional del Turismo or FITUR is being hosted in Spain from January 18-22, 2023.
  • The India Pavilion was inaugurated by Dinesh K Patnaik, Indian Ambassador to Spain.
  • The first Global Tourism Investors Summit will be organized in New Delhi from 10-12 April 2023.

 

8) 18th Annual Meeting of Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) held

  • Union Minister for Tourism, Culture G Kishan Reddy and Union Minister for Education and Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Dharmendra Pradhan co-chaired the 18th Annual General Meeting of the Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE), Guwahati on 19 January 2023.
  • During the meeting, a holistic approach of the government for skill development in the North Eastern region was suggested.

 

9) Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission

  • It was launched on 27 September 2021, by PM Narendra Modi.
  • It connects digital health solutions of hospitals across the country.
  • The National Health Authority (NHA) is the implementing agency of the mission.
  • The project has been implemented in the pilot phase in six states and union territories.
  • It also promotes the use of clinical decision support (CDS) systems by health practitioners.

 

10) Praveen Sharma appointed as Director of National Health Authority

  • Praveen Sharma has been appointed as the Director in the National Health Authority (Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission) under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
  • He is a 2005 batch Indian Defense Service of Engineers (IDSE) officer.
  • The National Health Authority implements. India’s public health insurance scheme called “Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY)”

 

11) Padma Shri awardee Prabhaben Sobhagchand Shah passes away

  • Padma Shri awardee Prabhaben Sobhagchand Shah passed away on 18th Jan 2023.
  • She was a social worker from the Union Territory of Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman, and Diu.
  • She was also known as “Daman ki Divya”
  • In 1969, Prabhaben started sewing classes for women in Daman.
  • She also started the Women Cooperative Society, and Women Credit Society.
  • In 2022, she was awarded the Padma Shri.
