1) Mazagon Dockyard Shipbuilders to make Offshore Patrol Vessels for ICG

  • Ministry of Defence has signed Rs 1,614.89 crore contract with Mazagon Dockyard Shipbuilders Ltd for procurement of six Next Generation Offshore Patrol Vessels for Indian Coast Guard.
  • The acquisition of these major ICG platforms is aimed to boost the ICG’s capability and reinforces the increased focus of the Government towards Maritime Security.

 

2) IAF, United Services Institution conducted Arjan Singh Annual Lecture

  • The Indian Air Force and USI jointly held the inaugural Marshal of the Air Force Arjan Singh Annual Lecture, honoring his achievements.
  • The lecture, delivered by Air Chief Marshal RKS Bhadauria, celebrated Arjan Singh’s leadership and service.
  • It is an annual event serving to inspire commitment, vision, and leadership, as embodied by Marshal Singh, within IAF personnel and Indian citizens.

 

3) National Geoscience Data Repository Portal launched

  • The Ministry of Mines hosted the first tranche of critical and strategic minerals auction.
  • To increase domestic mineral production and reducing import reliance, the National Geoscience Data Repository Portal has been launched.
  • It will congregate all baseline and exploration-related geoscientific data on a single platform, enhancing and facilitating the country’s exploration coverage.

 

4) Decrease in crime cases against women passengers over Indian Railways

  • NCRB data for 2022 signifies a decrease in crime against women on Indian Railways compared to 2019.
  • Various precautionary measures have been implemented, including CCTV surveillance in coaches and stations, the Rail Madad Portal for complaints, and the ‘Meri Saheli’ initiative for women travelling alone.
  • Rs 200 crore has been allocated in the NIRBHAYA fund to strengthen women’s safety.

 

5) Steady improvement in indicators for malnutrition: NFHS Report

  • National Health Family Survey 2019-21 report marked that the Stunting reduced from 38.4% to 35.5%, while Wasting reduced from 21.0% to 19.3%.
  • According to the Poshan Tracker data for November 2023, initiatives under Mission Poshan 2.0 are making strides in combatting malnutrition, with around 7.44 crore children under 6 years measured.

 

6) NITI Aayog report: Green, Sustainable Growth Agenda for Global Economy

  • NITI Aayog, in partnership with the International Development Research Centre and Global Development Network, published a report, ‘A Green and Sustainable Growth Agenda for the Global Economy’ based on the proceedings of the G20 international conference.
  • This report highlighted the need of climate financing and technological assistance to help the Global South countries tackle climate change.

 

7) International Gita Mahotsav commenced in Kurukshetra, Haryana

  • Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya inaugurated the International Gita Festival, marking the start with the Saras and Crafts Fair which displayed the cultural richness of 24 states.
  • The Governor highlighted the historical significance of the festival, teachings of Lord Krishna in the Bhagavad Gita.
  • This year, the festival runs from December 7 to 24, with Assam featured as the partner state.

 

8) IREDA CMD Pradip Kumar Das bagged ‘CMD of the Year’ award

  • Pradip Kumar Das, CMD of IREDA, was honoured with the “CMD of the Year” award for the second consecutive year at the 13th PSE Excellence Awards acknowledging his leadership and significant contributions to the renewable energy sector.
  • IREDA also bagged runner-up accolades, emphasizing its commitment to operational, governance, socio-environmental excellence, and inclusivity.

 

9) Gol to boost nuclear power capacity from 7480 MW to 22480 MW by 2032

  • Gol aims to increase nuclear power capacity from 7480 MW to 22480 MW by 2031-32, according to Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh.
  • Current annual electricity generation from nuclear power plants has risen to 46982 Million Units in 2022-23 from 35334 Million Units in 2013-14.
  • Dr Singh emphasised its role as a clean, constant source of electricity, to help India achieve net zero by 2070.

 

10) EPFO added 15.29 lakh net members during October 2023

  • EPFO’s provisional data for Oct 2023 indicates an addition of 15.29 lakh net members, marking an 18.22% YoY increase.
  • Among the new members, 58.60% are in the 18-25 age group, reflecting the majority are first-time job seekers.
  • It also noted that about 11.10 lakh members rejoined EPFO after job switches, indicating a preference for continuity in social security protection.

 

11) Judge Advocate General Department celebrated 40th Corps Day

  • The legal branch of the Indian Army, the Judge Advocate General (JAG) Department, marked its 40th Corps Day on 21st Dec 2023.
  • JAG department handles military legal matters and provides guidance to the Chief of Army Staff.
  • The Judge Advocate General is the legal advisor to the Chief of Army Staff in matters of military, martial (in its fighting service aspect) and international law.
