3) Govt sets up panel to recommend arbitration law reforms
- Union govt has constituted an expert panel headed by former Law Secretary TK Vishwanathan to propose reforms in the Arbitration and Conciliation Act.
- The expert committee comprises Attorney General N Venkataramani and members from various departments.
- The panel is expected to submit its report within 30 days and recommend a framework for a cost-effective arbitration system.
4) World Refugee Day: 20 June
- World Refugee Day is an international day organized annually on 20 June by the United Nations.
- It is designed to celebrate and honor refugees from around the world.
- The day was first established on 20 June 2001, in recognition of the 50th anniversary of the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees.
- The theme for the year 2023 is “Hope Away from Home”
5) Famous Telegu choreographer Rakesh Master passes away
- Renowned Tollywood choreographer S. Rama Rao, widely known as Rakesh Master, has passed away.
- He worked on over 500 films, and his work was known for its energy, creativity, and technical precision.
- Some of his most famous choreographies include the songs “Ringa Ringa Roses” and “Ishq Wala Love”.
- He also choreographed several hit songs in Hindi films, including “Disco Dancer”.
6) Google celebrates birthday of Polish sculptor Magdalena Abakanowicz
- Google Doodle celebrated the 93rd birthday of Polish sculptor Magdalena Abakanowicz with a special doodle.
- She was born on 20 June 1930 in Poland.
- She developed a soft sculpture that turned fabric into three dimensions in the 1960s.
- These new forms of installations hung from the ceiling and were called Abakans.
- She was awarded the top prize at the 1965 São Paulo International Art Biennale.
7) Indian Army participates in multinational exercise ‘Khaan Quest 2023’
- Indian Army is participating in the multinational peacekeeping Joint Exercise Ex Khaan Quest 2023 in Mongolia.
- Over 20 countries are participating in the exercise.
- The exercise was inaugurated by President of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh.
- The Garhwal Rifles is representing the Indian Army in the exercise.
- The exercise will train uniformed personnel for UN Peacekeeping Operations.
8) Sumit Seth appointed India’s next ambassador to Panama
- Sumit Seth, an Indian Foreign Service officer of the 2005 batch, has been appointed as India’s next ambassador to Panama.
- Sumit Seth is presently posted as Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs.
- Earlier, he served as Deputy Chief of Mission in Yangon, Myanmar.
- He was also posted at India’s Missions in Madrid, Bogota and Geneva.
