1) Pramod Rao takes charge as SEBI’s executive director
- Pramod Rao on 19 July 2022 took charge as executive director of Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).
- He will handle the Department of Debt and Hybrid Securities (DDHS) and Enquiry and Adjudication Department (EAD).
- Before this, he held the position of Group General Counsel at ICICI Bank.

2) Gautam Adani secures world’s fourth richest rank on Forbes list
- Gautam Adani now holds the fourth rank on the Forbes world’s richest list, surpassing Microsoft founder Bill Gates.
- Bill Gates has worth of an estimated $102 billion on Forbes’ Real-Time Ranking of the World’s Billionaires, whereas Gautam Adani has net worth of over $114 billion, as per Forbes.
- On the Forbes’ list, Elon Musk is the richest person with $230 billion net worth
3) Rajasthan launches India’s first Digital Lok Adalat
- India’s 1st Al-powered digital Lok Adalat was launched in Jaipur, Rajasthan on 17 July 2022.
- It was launched by National Legal Services Authority Chairman Uday Umesh Lalit during the 18th All India Legal Services Authorities’ meet held in Rajasthan.
- This event was inaugurated by Chief Justice of India N V Ramana.
- The digital Lok Adalat has been developed by Jupitice Justice Technologies.
4) Jawaharlal Nehru Port becomes first 100% Landlord Major Port of India
- Jawaharlal Nehru Port has become the first major port of the country to become 100% Landlord port.
- JNP is one of the leading container ports of the country and is ranked 26th among the top 100 global ports (as per Lloyds List Top 100 Ports 2021 Report).
- Currently, five container terminals are operated at JNP, of which only one is port owned.
5) ITBP creates 1st mountain-warfare training school in NE
- The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has created its first mountain-warfare training centre in northeast India, its second overall.
- The new centre has been established in Dombang, abutting the LAC.
- The facility has come almost after five decades of the establishment of its first such school called mountaineering and skiing institute (M&SI) during 1973-74 at Auli near Joshimath.
6) Former SC judge Vineet Saran appointed as BCCI ethics officer
- The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has appointed retired Supreme Court judge Vineet Saran as the ombudsman and ethics officer.
- Both of these posts were lying vacant for a year.
- Saran has succeeded Justice (Retd) D K Jain, whose term ended in June 2021.
- Saran has also served as Chief Justice of the Odisha High Court.

7) Urban co-operative banks to have four-tiered regulatory framework: RBI
- On the recommendations of an expert committee headed by NS Vishwanathan, RBI has adopted a four-tiered regulatory framework for Urban Co-operative Banks (UCBS) based on size of deposits, with an aim to strengthen their financial soundness.
- A minimum net worth of Rs 2 crore for Tier 1 UCBS operating in single district and Rs 5 crore for all other UCBS (of all tiers) has been stipulated.
8) Mairaj Ahmad Khan: 1st to win gold in men’s skeet event
- In shooting, Mairaj Ahmad Khan created history by becoming the first Indian shooter to win the gold medal in the men’s skeet event at the ISSF World Cup in Changwon, South Korea, on 18 July 2022.
- Mairaj Ahmad Khan recorded 37 hits out of a possible 40 in the final to win gold.
- South Korea’s Minsu Kim struck 36 for silver while Ben Llewellin of Great Britain won bronze with 26 hits.
9) Harshada Garud bags gold at Asian Youth & Junior Weightlifting C’ships
- Indian weightlifter Harshada Garud on 18 July 2022 won a gold medal in the 2022 Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championship.
- She won the gold with a total lift of 157 kg, which includes 69 kg in Snatch & 88 kg in the Clean & Jerk category.
- Soumya Dalvi bagged the bronze in the 45kg youth event.
- This championship is being held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan from July 15 to July 25, 2022.
10) DBS named ‘World’s Best SME Bank’ by Euromoney
- Singapore-based DBS bank has been recognised as the ‘World’s Best SME Bank’ by Euromoney.
- DBS has been honoured with this title for the second time since 2018.
- Since the start of the pandemic in 2020, DBS has applied emerging technologies to help small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) manage their credit risk.
- Euromoney is a leading UK-based financial publication.

11) International Chess Day: 20 July
- Every year, July 20 is celebrated as International Chess Day to honor the establishment of International Chess Federation (FIDE) in 1924.
- The idea to celebrate the day was proposed by UNESCO & since 1966, the day has been celebrated every year.
- FIDE, which has 181 chess federations as its members, organizes chess events around the world on this day.

12) Shanghai Cooperation Organisation to admit Iran as a full member
- The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) will admit Iran as its 9th member at the upcoming summit in Samarkand, Uzbekistan in September 2022.
- This summit will be held under the Presidency of Uzbekistan.
- This is the first expansion of the SCO after India and Pakistan were admitted to the grouping in 2017.
- Belarus has also applied for SCO membership.

13) RattanIndia Power appoints Brijesh Gupta as Managing Director
- RattanIndia Power has appointed Brijesh Gupta as Managing Director.
- He has held leadership positions in Adani Enterprises, Essar Group, Welspun and Atha Group.
- RattanIndia Power is a private power generation company, with installed capacity of 2,700 MW thermal power plants at Amravati and Nashik (1,350 MW at each location) in Maharashtra, with investments of Rs.18,615 cr (US$ 2.5 billion).
14) Morgan Stanley cuts India’s FY23 GDP estimate by 0.40%
- Brokerage firm Morgan Stanley reduced its forecast for India’s GDP growth estimate by 0.4 per cent to 7.2 per cent for the Financial Year 2023 due to slower global growth.
- RBI has also estimated the GDP growth rate at 7.2 percent for the current fiscal.
- Morgan Stanley further said the growth will further slow down to 6.4 per cent in the FY24, which is 0.3% lower than the earlier forecast.
15) IIT Kanpur develops bio-inspired artificial muscle for space robots
- The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur has developed a bio-inspired artificial muscle for next-generation space robots and medical prostheses.
- It has been developed at the institute’s Smart Materials, Structures and Systems (SMSS) Lab.
- This artificial muscle can be used to reinforce Indian space technology and also create adaptive robotic prostheses.
16) Mangal Pandey birth anniversary: 19 July
- The birth anniversary of Mangal Pandey, the leader of the legendary Revolt of 1857, was observed on 19 July.
- He was born in Akbarpur on 19 July 1827 to a landowning family.
- He played a key role in the events that led to India’s first major rebellion against the British Empire in 1857 which is also known as the First. War of Independence.
- Pandey was executed on 8 April 1857.
17) CII-Exim Bank Conclave: India and Africa partners in progress
- Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal attended the CII-Exim Bank conclave and said “India and Africa were partners in progress”
- He emphasized bringing cost-effective solutions to drinking water, healthcare, education and power generation.
- He also emphasized inclusion of emerging areas, such as solar energy, start-ups, and digital infrastructure for partnership.
18) Lt. Gen. Raj Shukla takes the Oath of Office as Member, UPSC
- General (Retd) Shri Raj Shukla took the Oath of Office and Secrecy as Member, UPSC on 18 July 2022.
- He commanded an Infantry Brigade in Counter Insurgency Operations, the Baramulla Division along the Line of Control in the Kashmir Valley and a Pivot Corps along the Western Borders.
- He was awarded the Param Vishisht Seva Medal on Republic Day 2021.
