1) Know About: RBI
- RBI or Reserve Bank of India is India’s central bank and regulatory body.
- It regulates the Indian banking system.
- It is under the ownership of Ministry of Finance.
- It was founded on 1 April 1935 in Kolkata.
- It was established following the Reserve Bank of India Act of 1934.
- It was nationalised in 1949.
- Shaktikanta Das is the current Governor of RBI.
2) Shiprocket becomes India’s 106th unicorn
- Shiprocket became India’s 106th unicorn after raising $33.5 million in a funding round co-led by Temasek and Lightrock India.
- Shiprocket was valued at around $1.2 billion with the fresh round of funding.
- The term unicorn refers to a privately held startup company with a value of over $1 billion.
- Recently in May, Neobank startup, OPEN became the 100th unicorn in India.
3) Rajasthan with highest share in cost of projects approved by banks
- An RBI article has revealed Rajasthan has accounted for the highest share in the total cost of projects sanctioned by banks and financial institutions in FY22.
- The state has retained the top position for two consecutive years.
- Uttar Pradesh stood at the second position followed by Gujarat.
- The article is titled ‘Private Corporate Investment: Growth in 2021-22 and Outlook for 2022-23
4) Manisha Kalyan becomes 1st Indian to play in UEFA League
- Manisha Kalyan has become the first Indian footballer to play at the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
- She made her debut for Apollon Ladies FC in the European Club competition in Engomi, Cyprus.
- She was awarded the AIFF Women’s Footballer of the Year for the 2021-22 season.
- Kalyan had produced impressive performances for the national team and Gokulam Kerala in the Indian Women’s League (IWL).
5) Know About: BSF
- The Border Security Force (BSF) is India’s primary border-guarding organisation.
- It is one of the seven Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) of India.
- It is the only CAPF to have a Water Wing, Air Wing and an Artillery Regiment.
- BSF guards 3,323 km of India-Pakistan and 4,096 km India-Bangladesh borders.

6) World Photography Day: 19 August
- World Photography Day is celebrated on August 19 every year with the aim to pay homage to photographers who contributed to the field of photography.
- Two Frenchmen Louis Daguerre and Joseph Nicephore Niepce developed the first photographic process in the year 1837.
- This process was called ‘Daguerreotype!

7) BSF signs MoU with IRCTC to ensure safety and security of booking data
- The Border Security Force (BSF) has signed an MoU with the Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation (IRCTC).
- It has been signed to ensure the safety & security of booking data under IRCTC’s air e-ticket service for the troops of BSF.
- This service will provide a dedicated online portal with a credit facility of 60 days.

8) World Mosquito Day: 20 August
- Every year, World Mosquito Day is observed on 20 August.
- This day is observed to mark the historic discovery by British doctor Sir Ronald Ross in 1897 that malaria is transmitted between humans by female Anopheline mosquitoes.
- He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Medicine for his work on malaria in 1902.
- 2022 Theme: “Harness innovation to reduce the malaria disease burden and save lives.”
9) Kerala’s first tribal novelist, Narayan, passes away
- Kerala’s first tribal novelist and short story writer, Narayan, passed away at the age of 82 on 16 August 2022.
- Narayan received the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award in 1999 for his first novel ‘Kocharethi!
- The English translation of this novel titled ‘Kocharethi: The Araya Woman’ won the Crossword Prize in 2011.
- Narayan’s other major works include Ooralikkudi, Vandanam & Aaranu Tholkkunnavar.
10) 17th Pravasi Bhartiya Divas to be held at Indore in January 2023
- The 17th Pravasi Bhartiya Divas (PBD) will be held at Indore in January 2023.
- It is celebrated every year on 9th January to mark the contribution of the overseas Indian community in the development of India.
- It also commemorates the return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa to India on 9 January 1915.

11) Maharashtra declares ‘Dahi Handi’ an official sport
- Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde has announced that ‘Dahi-Handi’ will now be recognised as an official sport in the state.
- The govt will introduce “Pro-Dahi-Handi” competitions in the state.
- The ‘Govindas’ will also get jobs under the sports category apart from Rs 10 lakh insurance cover.
- “Dahi Handi” is a popular event in the state, associated with Lord Krishna’s birthday, Janmashtami.
12) IAF to participate in Exercise Pitch Black 2022 in Australia
- An Indian Air Force (IAF) contingent on 19 August reached Australia to participate in Exercise ‘Pitch Black 2022.’
- This exercise is scheduled to be held from 19 Aug to 08 Sep 2022 in Australia’s Darwin.
- It is a biennial, multi-national exercise hosted by the Royal Australian Air Force.
- The IAF contingent, led by Group Captain YPS Negi, comprises over 100 air warriors in this exercise.
