1) National Science Day: 28 February

  • National Science Day is celebrated every year on 28 February.
  • The theme 2023 is “Global Science for Global Wellbeing”
  • The day is celebrated to mark the discovery of the “Raman Effect” by physicist, Sir CV Raman on this day in 1928.
  • For this discovery, he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930.
  • In 1954, he was honoured with India’s highest civilian award, the Bharat Ratna.

 

2) Lionel Messi bags best FIFA football player award

  • Argentina captain Lionel Messi has been named the best player in men’s football by FIFA, at The Best FIFA Football Awards in Paris.
  • Messi won this award for his outstanding performances in men’s football from August 2021 to December 2022.
  • He scored two goals in the final against France.
  • Spain’s Alexia Putellas won the best women’s player award for the 2nd year in a row.

 

3) NASA to name first woman as agency’s science chief

  • NASA has picked Nicola Fox, a longtime solar scientist who heads its heliophysics division to become the U.S. space agency’s science chief.
  • She will be the first woman named to serve in the role.
  • She is a former top scientist on the Parker Solar Probe mission studying the sun.
  • Fox will lead NASA’s science directorate, a unit with an annual budget of roughly $7 billion.

 

4) Parshottam Rupala inaugurates Grand start-up Conclave in Hyderabad

  • Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Parshottam Rupala inaugurated the ‘Grand start-up Conclave’ in Hyderabad on 28 Feb 2023.
  • The Conclave is aimed at promoting existing and emerging startups in the livestock, dairy, and animal husbandry sectors in the country.
  • The conclave also includes Showcasing of Selected startups, Pitch fest, a Buyer-seller meet, etc.

 

5) Rajendra Prasad’s Death Anniversary: 28 February

  • 2023 marked 60th death anniversary of India’s first President Dr Rajendra Prasad.
  • He was born on December 3, 1884, at Siwan, Bihar and last breathed on Feb 28, 1963.
  • He accompanied Mahatma Gandhi to the Champaran district of Bihar to address the grievances of local peasants.
  • He became the President of India on Jan 26, 1950, and went on to wining the presidency for 3 consecutive terms.

 

6) Know About: Screen Actors Guild Awards

  • The Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards honor the best achievements in film and television performances.
  • They are given by the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA).
  • They were first awarded in 1995.
  • SAG Awards have been one of the major awards events in the Hollywood film industry since 1995, the other two being the Golden Globes and the Oscars.

 

7) Nokia changes its logo for the first time in 60 years

  • Nokia, a smartphone and telecom equipment manufacturer, has changed its logo for the first time in nearly 60 years.
  • The new logo was launched by CEO Pekka Lundmark on 26 Feb 2023.
  • The new logo comprises five different shapes forming the word NOKIA.
  • Also, the company has dropped the iconic blue colour and now there’s a range of colours depending on the use.
