DAILY DOSE 18TH APRIL CURRENT AFFAIRS
1) Jay Shah appointed as Member Board Representative of ICC Cricket Com.
- BCCI Secretary Jay Shah has been appointed to the ICC Cricket Committee as the Member Board Representative.
- Mahela Jayawardene was reappointed as the Past Player representative.
- From the 2022-23 season, one neutral and one home umpire in Tests will be allowed.
- It has also been announced that South Africa will host the inaugural ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup.
2) Fino Payments Bank to buy 12.19% stake in Paysprint
- Fino Payments Bank’s board has approved a minority strategic investment of up to 12.19% in New Delhi-based fintech Paysprint Pvt Ltd.
- The strategic investment is a first for Fino Payments Bank after its public listing.
- Paysprint is a financial technology company offering next-generation application programming interfaces (APIs) in the areas of banking, payments, insurance, investment, etc.
3) Bhuvneshwar Kumar becomes first to scalp 150 wickets in IPL
- Bhuvneshwar Kumar on 17 Apr 22, became the first Indian pacer to reach the milestone of 150 wickets in the Indian Premier League history.
- He achieved the feat while playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad during the IPL 2022 match against Punjab Kings at Dr. DY Patil Stadium, Mumbai.
- After Dwayne Bravo (174) and Lasith Malinga (170), Kumar is overall just the third pacer to bag 150 wickets in IPL.
4) Easter: 17 April
- Easter was celebrated on 17 April 2022.
- Easter is believed to have taken place three days after Jesus Christ was crucified by the Romans on Good Friday.
- The crucifixion of Jesus happened around 30 AD.
- It is believed that he was tortured, beaten, and crucified on the day of Good Friday and was later buried in a grave after Jesus had his last supper with his disciples on Maundy Thursday.
5) WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine (GCTM) to be inaugurated
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lay the foundation stone of the WHO Global Centre for Traditional Medicine (GCTM) in Jamnagar, during his 3-day trip to Gujarat from 18 April 2022.
- GCTM will be the first and only global outpost centre for traditional medicine across the world.
- He will also inaugurate Global AYUSH Investment and Innovation Summit in Gandhinagar.
6) Manoj Soni appointed as new UPSC Chairman
- Dr Manoj Soni has been appointed as the Chairman of the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
- He is currently a member of the UPSC.
- He served as the country’s youngest Vice-Chancellor in 2005, of MS University.
- He also served as the Vice-Chancellor of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University in Ahmedabad between August 2009 to July 2015.
7) M&M to sell entire stake in Mahindra Sanyo Special Steel for Rs 212 cr
- Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) has agreed to sell over 34.75 lakh shares, in Mahindra Sanyo Special Steel Pvt Ltd (MSSSPL), to Japan-based Sanyo Special Steel Co Ltd in a Rs 212 cr deal.
- The automaker will receive Rs 211.99 cr from the stake sale.
- For the year ended March 31, 2021, the turnover of MSSSPL stood at Rs 834.43 cr constituting 1.12% of the consolidated turnover of the company.
8) Tamil Nadu CM inaugurates Periyar Memorial Samathuvapuram
- Tamil Nadu CM M K Stalin inaugurated the Periyar Memorial Samathuvapuram in Periyakozhuvaari Panchayat in Vanur taluk of Villupuram district in Tamil Nadu, in April 2022.
- 100 dwelling units with all basic amenities were built at the cost of 2 crores 88 lakh rupees.
- He also handed over various welfare schemes worth over 42 crore rupees to a total of 10722 beneficiaries.
9) Skill India International Centre to come up in Odisha
- India’s first Skill India International Centre will be set up in Bhubaneswar for training youths with an aim to enhance overseas opportunities for the skilled workforce.
- An MoU was exchanged between the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) and the Skill Development Institute (SDI) on 16 April 2022.
- A National Academy for Skill Teachers will be set up at the SDI campus.
10) Poverty in India declined 12.3 percentage points: World Bank
- The poverty in India is 12.3% points lower in 2019 as compared to 2011.
- The poverty headcount rate has declined from 22.5% in 2011 to 10.2% in 2019.
- According to a policy research working paper by the World Bank, poverty reduction was higher in rural areas as compared to urban India.
- Rural poverty dropped by 14.7% while urban poverty declined by 7.9% points from 2011 to 2019.

11) Tamil Nadu wins National basketball Championship
- Tamil Nadu defeated defending champion Punjab 87-69 in the final to win the men’s title in the 71st Senior National Basketball Championship in April 2022.
- Karnataka and Railways were at 3rd and 4th position, respectively.
- Indian Railways team won the women’s title, beating Telangana 131-82.
- Tamil Nadu and Kerala were in 3rd and 4th place, respectively, in the women’s match.
12) World Heritage Day: 18 April
- World Heritage Day, also known as International Day for Monuments and Sites, is observed on April 18.
- The day was first celebrated by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in 1983.
- The aim is to promote awareness about the cultural heritage and diversity on the planet.
- The theme for World Heritage Day 2022 is “Heritage and Climate”!
13) Bengali author Amar Mitra awarded O. Henry Prize for 45 year old story
- Bengali author Amar Mitra has been awarded. the O.Henry Prize 2022 for a short story he wrote 45 years back.
- The short story titled ‘Gaonburo’ is a Bengali short fiction written in 1977.
- Mitra was also awarded the Sahitya Academy award in the year 2006.
- Mitra was born in Kolkata and is a well-known writer of Bengali literature.
14) India’s first radio channel for visually-impaired people launched
- The country’s first-ever radio channel for the visually impaired, named ‘Radio Aksh’ has been launched in Nagpur.
- The Blind Relief Association Nagpur and Samdrushti Kshamata Vikas Avam Anusandhan Mandal (Saksham) are the pioneers of the concept.
- It will help the visually-impaired gain seamless access to education resources and audiobooks.
15) KVG Bank launches 1,111-day deposit scheme
- Karnataka Vikas Grameena Bank (KVGB), a regional rural bank headquartered in Dharwad, has launched a 1,111-day deposit scheme.
- It offers 5.70 per cent interest for the general public and 6.20 per cent for senior citizens.
- A minimum of 10,000 and a maximum of 2 crores can be deposited under the scheme.
- The bank’s total business stood at 30,750 crores during 2021-22.
16) HDFC Bank board approves re-appointment of Renu Karnad as Director
- HDFC Bank’s board of directors has approved the re-appointment of Renu Karnad as Non-Executive Director for a period of five years with effect from September 3, 2022.
- She is the Managing Director of HDFC Limited since 2010.
- She has been renowned with ‘Top Ten Powerful Women to watch out for in Asia’ by Wall Street Journal Asia in 2006.

17) China launches Zhongxing-6D satellite
- China successfully launched Zhongxing-6D, a new satellite into space, in April 2022.
- It was launched from the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre in southwest China’s Sichuan Province.
- The satellite, launched by a Long March-3B carrier rocket, entered the planned orbit successfully.
- The launch of Zhongxing-6D marked the 415th mission for the Long March series carrier rockets.
18) Uttarakhand Chief Minister launches anti-corruption mobile app
- Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami launched an anti-corruption mobile app in April 2022.
- Developed by the Vigilance Department, the ‘1064 Anti-Corruption Mobile App’, makes it easier for people to lodge graft-related complaints directly with the authorities.
- All complaints will be registered through the app and the data as well as the identity of the complainant will be protected.
19) DG, NMCG participates in Singapore International Water Week 2022
- Director General, National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) G. Asok Kumar participated virtually in Singapore International Water Week, Water Convention 2022, in April 2022.
- He gave a presentation on ‘Status of Wastewater Generation, Treatment and Management in India: Success Through NMCG Initiatives!
- He also gave an overview of the Namami Gange Programme.
20) Army Commanders’ biannual Conference to be held from 18 April 2022
- Army Commanders’ Conference is scheduled for 18 April 2022 in New Delhi.
- It is an apex-level biannual event that is held in April and October every year.
- During the five-day conference, the senior leadership of the Indian Army will review the operational situation along the active borders, assess threats in the entire spectrum of conflict and undertake an analysis of capability voids.
21) IndusInd Bank’s app awarded at the Digital CX Awards 2022
- IndusInd Bank’s mobile app for merchants – ‘Indus Merchant Solutions’ has been awarded the ‘Outstanding Digital CX – SME Payments’ at the Digital CX Awards 2022.
- The Digital CX Awards is organized by Digital Banker, a globally trusted financial news service provider.
- Launched by IndusInd Bank in Nov 2021, the app enables merchants, and retailers to undertake an array of activities.
22) IIT Guwahati partners with NTPC to develop energy-efficient tech
- IIT Guwahati has partnered with NTPC to design and develop a highly energy-efficient plant for CO2 capture from power plants.
- This indigenous technology was developed by Prof. Bishnupada Mandal.
- This project, through its research and education, will support and strengthen the UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals as well.

23) Mauritius PM Pravind Jugnauth arrives in Mumbai on 8-day visit
- PM of Mauritius Pravind Kumar Jugnauth arrived in Mumbai on 17 April 2022 on an eight-day visit to India from till 24th of April.
- He will participate in the Global Ayush Investment and Innovation Summit in Gandhinagar on 20 April 2022.
- The Mauritius PM will also pay a visit to Varanasi apart from his official engagements in Gujarat and New Delhi.
