  • In 1799, Napoleon Bonaparte annexed Italy to his empire.
  • In 1858, Rani Laxmibai of Jhansi was martyred.
  • In 1917, Mahatma Gandhi made his residence in the Sabarmati Ashram.
  • In 1956, Hindu Succession Act 1956 was passed.
  • In 2008, The indigenously developed Light Combat Aircraft ‘Tejas’ was successfully test-fired in Bangalore.

 

3) Axis Bank appoints N S Vishwanathan as non-executive chairman

  • Axis Bank has appointed former RBI Deputy Governor NS Vishwanathan as its part-time Non-Executive Chairman for a period of 3 years.
  • Vishwanathan joined the RBI in 1981 and retired in March 2020 as the Deputy Governor.
  • He is also the head of the advisory board at Razorpay.
  • The appointment of Vishwanathan is subject to the approval of the shareholders of the Bank and Reserve Bank of India.

 

4) RBI approves appointment of Vasudevan P N as MD, CEO of Equitas FSB

  • Equitas Small Finance Bank has received approval from the Reserve Bank of India to re-appoint P N Vasudevan as the Managing Director and CEO of the bank. for a period of three years.
  • The Bank is a small finance bank that provides financial services to underserved and unserved segments of society.
  • The bank has a strong presence in South India and is committed to promoting financial inclusion.

 

5) Om Birla inaugurates National Legislators’ Conference Bharat in Mumbai

  • The National Legislators’ Conference Bharat was officially inaugurated by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla in Mumbai on 16 June 2023.
  • The APJ Abdul Kalam expo pavilion was also inaugurated on the theme of Bharat’s 75th year of independence and celebrating the spirit of democracy.
  • The conference gives a platform to engage in discussions and contemplate strengthening the legislative institutions.

 

6) World Father’s Day: 18 June

  • It is observed every year on the third Sunday of June to commemorate fatherhood and appreciates all fathers for their support and contribution to society.
  • Father’s Day 2023 will be celebrated on June 18.
  • Sonora Smart Dodd advocated for the day to honor fathers.
  • The first Father’s Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910, in Spokane, Washington.

 

7) World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought: 17 June

  • It is observed on 17 June each year to promote public awareness of international efforts to combat desertification.
  • The United Nations General Assembly in 1994 declared 17 June as the “World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought”.
  • The global focus for Desertification and Drought Day 2023 is on women’s land rights
  • The theme for the year 2023 is ‘Her Land. Her Rights.’

 

8) Five iconic Telangana structures win Green Apple Awards

  • Five buildings from Telangana have been selected for the ‘International Green Apple Awards for Beautiful Buildings’.
  • Mozzam-Jahi Market, Durgam Cheruvu Cable Bridge, Telangana Secretariat Building, Control Centre of Telangana Police, and Yadadri Temple are the five award-winning structures.
  • This is the 1st time that any building or structure from India is being awarded the Green Apple award.

 

9) NITI Aayog, UN sign Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework

  • NITI Aayog and the United Nations in India signed the Gol-UNSDCF 2023-2027, a framework for sustainable development in India.
  • The framework is built on four strategic pillars: People, Prosperity, Planet, and Participation, with six outcome areas.
  • The framework was formulated by NITI Aayog and had robust participation from line Ministries, State Governments, and Union Territories.

 

10) Heavy Industries minister launches “Dugdh Sankalan Sathi Mobile App”

  • Union Minister of Heavy Industries Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey unveiled the “Dugdh Sanakalan Sathi Mobile App” on 16 June 2023 at Mussoorie, Uttarakhand.
  • The app was designed and developed by Rajasthan Electronics & Instruments Limited (REIL), Jaipur.
  • The app aims to improve the quality of milk and streamline operations at the grassroots village level.

 

11) PM addresses G20 Agriculture Ministers’ Meet

  • PM Narendra Modi addressed the G20 Agriculture Ministers’ Meet on 16 June 2023.
  • He highlighted the importance of agriculture and its role in providing livelihoods for over 2.5 billion people globally.
  • Over 200 delegates from G20 member countries and International Organizations attended the event.
  • The Meeting aims to discuss important issues related to agriculture and food security.
