3) NASA’s Cassini finds phosphorous on Saturn’s moon Enceladus
- Phosphorus, a key chemical element for many biological processes, has been found at Enceladus, the small moon of Saturn by NASA’s Cassini.
- Cassini a space probe launched to scrutinize Saturn and its extensive system of moons and rings.
- Phosphorus is a building block for DNA, which forms chromosomes and carries genetic information and is present in the bones of mammals.
4) New Zealand Economy Falls Into Recession, First Since 2020
- New Zealand’s agriculture-driven economy has fallen into recession, according to official data released.
- Stats NZ signalled the economy had contracted 0.1 percent in the first quarter, after a fall of 0.7 percent at the end of 2022.
- January flooding in Auckland and destruction caused by Cyclone Gabrielle in Feb both weighed on the economy.
- This is New Zealand’s first recession since 2020
5) US hosts first-ever Hindu American summit on June 14
- A group of Indian Americans organized the inaugural Hindu-American Summit for political engagement at the US Capitol Hill on June 14.
- The summit aims to highlight the concerns and issues faced by the Hindu community, seeking the attention and support of lawmakers.
- The summit aspires to rectify disparity by convening 130 prominent figures and leaders from 20 Hindu and Indian organizations.
6) World Elder Abuse Awareness Day: 15 June
- This day is celebrated every year on 15 June to raise the voice for caring elders. Elder abuse is a global social issue that affects the Health of millions of older persons.
- The day was officially recognized by the UN General Assembly in 2006.
- The theme for the 2023 year is “Closing the Circle: Addressing Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in Older Age Policy, Law and Evidence-based Responses”.
7) Delhi CM unveils ‘One Time Settlement Scheme’ for pending bills
- Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on 14 June 2023 announced the ‘One Time Settlement Scheme’ for pending water bills of consumers.
- Under the new scheme, effective from August 1, the government will completely waive off the pending water bills of 7 lakh consumers.
- The initiative aims to provide immense relief to those who have been struggling to meet their obligations.
