1) PR Hari takes over as GRSE Chairman-cum-Managing Director

  • Commodore P R Hari has taken over as the Chairman and Managing Director of Defence PSU Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Ltd.
  • He has been in charge of production planning of all new construction ships built at the shipyard since 2016 and became director (personnel) of the warship builder in October 2019.
  • He served for over 28 years in the Indian Navy prior to this.

 

2) Indian national Krishna Srinivasan to head IMF’s Asia-Pacific dept.

  • India’s Krishna Srinivasan has been appointed as the director of the Asia and Pacific Department of the International Monetary Fund.
  • He will succeed Changyong Rhee, who announced his retirement on 23 March 2022.
  • Srinivasan is currently a Deputy Director in the Asia-Pacific department of IMF.
  • IMF founded – 27 December 1945
  • IMF Headquarters – Washington, DC. (US)

 

3) R Subramaniakumar appointed as MD and CEO of RBL Bank

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the appointment of R Subramaniakumar as Managing Director and CEO of RBL Bank for three years tenure.
  • He was an Executive Director at Indian Bank and Indian Overseas Bank earlier.
  • He also held the position of Managing Director and CEO of Indian Overseas Bank.
  • Also, he was an Administrator at Dewan Housing Finance Corporation Limited.

 

4) MapmyIndia collaborates with ISRO to boost 3D mapping

  • MapmyIndia has collaborated with India’s space agency ISRO which will enhance the quality of its 3D maps.
  • The company is developing new maps as part of its foray into the metaverse.
  • Users will be able to see vegetation maps or heat maps, air quality maps, and other information on exact locations that are searched by people or on routes of their interest, through the collaboration with ISRO.

 

5) Avani Lekhara wins 2nd gold at Para Shooting World Cup 2022

  • Avani Lekhara on 11 June 2022 won gold at the R8- Women’s 50m 3P SH1 event during the ongoing Chateauroux Para Shooting World Cup 2022.
  • She won the medal by achieving a score of 458.3.
  • This is her second gold at the event.
  • On 7 June 2022, Avani had won a gold medal with a world record score of 250.6 in the Women’s 10m Air Rifle & secured a place at the Paris Paralympics 2024.

 

6) Ecuador, Japan, Malta, Mozambique, Switzerland elected to UNSC

  • Ecuador, Japan, Malta, Mozambique and Switzerland have been elected to the UN Security Council as non-permanent members for the 2023-2024 term.
  • They will replace India, Ireland, Kenya, Mexico and Norway from January 1, 2023.
  • India’s two-year term at the UNSC as non-permanent member will end in December 2022, when it will also hold the Presidency of it.

 

7) Ratan Tata conferred honorary D.Litt by HSNC University

  • Tata Group Chairman Emeritus Ratan Tata has been conferred honorary D.Litt. by Maharashtra’s second state cluster university, HSNC University.
  • He has been conferred with it as a mark of appreciation towards his unparalleled contribution to society.
  • The Governor of Maharashtra and the Chancellor of the university Bhagat Singh Koshyari awarded the degree to him on 11 June 2022.

 

8) 4 Holy Relics of Lord Buddha from India to be taken to Mongolia

  • Four Holy Relics of Lord Buddha are being taken from India to Mongolia for an 11-day exposition as part of celebrations of Mongolian Buddha Purnima falling on the 14 June 2022.
  • A 25-member delegation will be led by Union Minister of Law and Justice Kiren Rijiju.
  • The Holy Buddha relics are known as the ‘Kapilvastu Relics’ since they are from a site in Bihar first discovered in 1898.

 

9) Indian GM Praggnanandhaa wins title in Norway chess open

  • India’s Grand Master R Praggnanandhaa on 10 June 2022 emerged winner in the Norway Chess Group A open chess tournament at Stavanger with 7.5 points from 9 rounds.
  • He finished the tournament with a win over fellow Indian V Praneeth.
  • Praggnanandhaa finished a full point ahead of second-placed IM Marsel Efroimski (Israel) and IM Jung Min Seo (Sweden).

 

10) India to reintroduce Cheetah from South Africa by August 2022

  • The government is set to introduce cheetahs from South Africa in Kuno-Palpur National Park in Madhya Pradesh by August 2022.
  • It is being done as part of attempts to rehabilitate the species that had become extinct from the country.
  • The government plans to introduce 8-10 cheetahs every year from South Africa.
  • In 1952, the Indian Government declared Cheetah extinct in the country.

11) North Korea appoints veteran diplomat as first female Foreign Minister

  • North Korea has appointed veteran diplomat Choe Son-hui as its first female foreign minister.
  • She replaces Ri Son Gwon, a former military official who previously led talks with the South Korea.
  • Choe has formerly served as North Korea’s vice foreign minister.
  • North Korea is a country in East Asia.
  • North Korea Capital – Pyongyang

 

12) India’s hyper-sensitive airports to install PIDS by 2023

  • In a circular, the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) said that all “hyper-sensitive” airports in the country will have to install a Perimeter Intrusion Detection System (PIDS) by December 2023.
  • PIDS is a sensor that helps alert security agencies of any intrusion through the boundary walls of the airport.
  • The BCAS is the apex body of aviation security in the country.

 

13) India create history by qualifying for FIFA Nations Cup 2022

  • India qualified for the FIFA Nations Cup (FeNC) 2022 for the first time ever on 11 June 2022 by defeating Korea Republic and Malaysia in Nation Series 2022 playoffs.
  • India will join 23 other nations to compete at FIFA 22 Esports from July 26 to 30, 2022 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
  • Organized and conducted by EA Sports, the FeNC is one of 3 major esports events that are held on a worldwide scale.

 

14) Ananth Technologies & Antaris partner for development of satellites

  • Indian aerospace solutions provider Ananth Technologies and US-based satellite software solutions provider Antaris have announced partnership for the development & launch of advanced small satellites for various use cases.
  • The first satellite will be launched in September 2022.
  • On 1 June 2022, Ananth Tech. also opened India’s largest private spacecraft manufacturing facility in Bengaluru.

 

15) Max Verstappen wins Azerbaijan F1 Grand Prix

  • Red Bull’s Max Verstappen won the Azerbaijan Grand Prix on 12 June 2022.
  • This is Verstappen’s 25th GP win of his career.
  • This is also Verstappen’s maiden win at Azerbaijan GP and a first podium as well.
  • Red Bull’s Sergio Perez claimed second place while Mercedes duo of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton finished third and fourth respectively.

 

16) Britain’s Queen becomes world’s second-longest reigning monarch

  • Britain’s Queen Elizabeth II on 12 June 2022 became the world’s second-longest reigning monarch in history, after France’s Louis XIV.
  • She has overtaken Thailand’s King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who reigned for 70 years and 126 days.
  • She was crowned in 1953 & is 96 years old.
  • Louis XIV of France remains the longest-reigning monarch, with a 72-year and 110-day reign from 1643 until 1715.

 

17) Andhra Pradesh govt launches YSR Yantra Seva Scheme

  • Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy launched YSR Yantra Seva Scheme in June 2022.
  • He flagged off the distribution of tractors and combine harvesters at Chuttugunta Centre in Guntur district.
  • 3,800 tractors and 320 combined harvesters would be made available at Rythu Bharosa Centres (RBKs).
  • He credited a subsidy of 175 crore into 5,260 farmer group bank accounts.

 

18) ICICI Bank partners with Zest Money

  • ICICI Bank has announced its partnership with Zest Money, a digital EMI/pay later platform, to expand its ‘Cardless EMI’ facility.
  • The customers of ICICI bank will be able to utilize Zest Money’s flagship ‘Pay-in-3’ offering, where the bill would be split into three Equated Monthly Installments (EMIS) without extra costs.
  • Customers can convert transactions up to Rs 10 lakh into EMIS.
