1) PM Modi to be honoured with Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award

  • PM Narendra Modi will be honored with the first-ever Lata Deenanath Mangeshkar Award.
  • The award has been instituted in the memory of the veteran singer who passed away in February 2022.
  • The award ceremony will be held on 24 April 2022 in Mumbai.
  • The award will be given annually to a person who has made a path-breaking, spectacular and exemplary contribution to the nation and its people.

 

2) IAF’s Chinook helicopter creates a new unique record

  • An Indian Air Force (IAF) Chinook heavy-lift chopper has created a flying record by completing a non-stop helicopter sortie in India, flying from Chandigarh to Jorhat (Assam).
  • The 1910 kilometres route was completed in 7 hours and 30 minutes.
  • On March 25, 2019, the IAF formally inducted the CH-47 (F) I Chinook heavy-lift helicopter into its inventory at a ceremony held in Chandigarh.

 

3) India to host National Delphic Games for Arts and Cultures in 2023

  • The International Delphic Council, based in Berlin, Germany has announced the National Delphic Games in India to be hosted in 2023.
  • 25 Indian states have already come together with State Delphic Councils to represent their unique cultures and arts and eminent personalities.
  • The winners will represent India at the International Delphic Games which will be hosted in 2026.

 

4) Indian Navy’s P81 aircraft reaches Australia

  • Indian Navy’s P8l plane reached the Australian city Darwin on 11 April 2022 to participate in coordinated maritime operations such as anti-submarine warfare.
  • The team from the Indian Navy’s maritime patrol squadron, Albatross (INAS 312) will engage with its counterparts from the 92 Wing of the Royal Australian Air Force.
  • Australia has P8A aircraft in its fleet.

 

5) NMDC wins two awards at 80th SKOCH Summit 2022

  • National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) was awarded one gold and one silver award at the 80th SKOCH Summit and SKOCH Awards in April 2022.
  • The theme for the SKOCH Summit was ‘State of BFSI & PSUs!
  • It also received the 3 SKOCH Order of Merit Awards for its efforts in ensuring seamless digitalization in Project Kalpataru and Project Safety First in the category Response to COVID.

 

6) Telangana signs pact with Thailand for trade, investment promotion

  • Telangana govt and Ministry of Commerce, Thailand have entered into an MoU.
  • They will kickstart the cooperation in SMEs and startups through the business incubator and innovation ecosystem “T-Hub” and “Thaitrade.com” of Thailand with the “GlobalLinker” of Telangana.
  • Both will explore the possibility of potential trade and investments in several key focus sectors.

 

7) Jnanpith Award presented to Assamese poet Nilamani Phookan

  • Eminent Assamese poet Nilamani Phookan has conferred the 56th Jnanpith Award on 11 April 2022, the ceremony of which was held for the first time in Assam.
  • He is also a recipient of the Sahitya Akademi and Padma Shri awards.
  • Phookan is the third Assamese to receive the Jnanpith Award after novelist Birendra Kumar Bhattacharya (1979) and Mamoni Raisom Goswami (2000).

 

8) Bharat Petroleum partners with Microsoft

  • Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (BPCL) has announced a seven-year partnership with Microsoft to accelerate its digital transformation and enhance customer experience.
  • Microsoft will provide infrastructure as a service (IAAS), platform as a service (PAAS), network and security services on the cloud, IOT and analytics to fuel BPCL’s cloud transformation.

 

9) Australia’s Victoria state to host 2026 Commonwealth Games

  • The Australian state of Victoria will host the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
  • The 2026 Games will be held in four regional hubs in the towns of Geelong, Ballarat, Bendigo and Gippsland.
  • The state has confirmed 16 sports for the Games so far, including aquatics, cycling, and Twenty20 cricket.
  • The 2022 Commonwealth Games are due to be held in Birmingham, England, from July 28 to August 8, 2022.

 

10) PNB, IDBI Bank get new Directors on their boards

  • The government has nominated new directors on the boards of Punjab National Bank and IDBI Bank.
  • Pankaj Sharma has been nominated as a Director of PNB with immediate effect and until further orders.
  • He is presently the Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Department of Financial Services.
  • Manoj Sahay and Sushil Kumar Singh have been nominated as Directors on the board of IDBI Bank.
