- In 1982, The National Bank for Agriculture & Rural Development (NABARD) was established.
- In 2001, India & Bangladesh ‘Maitri’ bus service between Agartala & Dhaka started.
3) Malala Day: 12 July
- Malala Day is celebrated every year on July 12 to celebrate the birthday of activist Malala Yousafzai.
- The Day was designated by the United Nations in 2013, marking one year since Malala was attacked by the Taliban.
- In 2013, TIME Magazine recognized her as one of the world’s most influential people.
- She was honored with the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014.
4) Devesh Uttam appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Lithuania
- Indian diplomat Devesh Uttam has been appointed as the next Ambassador of India to Lithuania.
- He is an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer of batch 2003.
- He is presently Joint Secretary in the Ministry of External Affairs.
- Manish Gupta, an Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer of batch 1998, has also been appointed as India’s next High Commissioner to Ghana.
5) India gets its 36th and Tamil Nadu’s 1st flying training organization
- India’s 36th and Tamil Nadu’s first Flight Training Organisation (FTO) has been approved by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (GDCA).
- EKVI Air Training Organisation Pvt. Ltd. based in Salem Airport, Tamil Nadu, has received approval to establish FTO.
- It will provide aspiring pilots with training opportunities as per DGCA standards.
- It will offer various courses related to aviation.
6) Wanindu Hasaranga and Ashleigh Gardner named ICC Players of the Month
- The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the winners of the ICC Player of the Month awards for June 2023.
- The ICC Men’s Player of the Month award goes to Sri Lanka’s Wanindu Hasaranga, who successfully qualified for ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
- The ICC Women’s Player of the Month prize goes to Australia’s all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner, making her the first to win three awards.
7) ORF President Samir Saran to join East-West Center’s Board of Governor
- Samir Saran, head of India’s Observer Research Foundation, has been elected as one of the international members of the East-West Center’s Board of Governors.
- Saran’s term will begin in October at the board’s next semiannual meeting.
- The Center was established by the United States in 1960 to foster better relations and understanding between the US, Asia, and the Pacific islands.
8) India, Maldives ink 9 agreements for various development projects
- India and Maldives signed various agreements and a Memorandum of Understanding at Hyderabad House on 11 July 2023.
- Nine new MoUs were exchanged under Phase II of the High Impact Community Development Projects Scheme.
- The MoU was signed to promote play and healthy competition in the community.
- Both countries also signed MoU on Upgrading School Computer Lab in Government schools.
9) Google Doodle celebrates India’s premier street food ‘pani puri’
- Google celebrates India’s popular street food, pani puri, with a special interactive game Doodle on 11 July 2023.
- In the game, users can help a street vendor fulfil pani puri orders by choosing from different flavours to match customer preferences.
- In 2015, a restaurant in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore served 51 unique pani puri flavours and made it to the Golden Book of World Records.
10) IFSCA, Climate Policy Initiative sign pact on sustainable finance
- International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) has signed an agreement with Climate Policy Initiative to increase mobilization of sustainable capital flows into India.
- IFSCA has taken significant steps to accelerate global sustainable capital flows by creating a conducive regulatory environment.
- Climate Policy Initiative (CPI) works to improve best practices around the world.
11) Sikkim tops, UP among bigger states in grievance redressal index
- The Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG) released the Centralized Public Grievance Redressal and Monitoring System (CPGRAMS) monthly report for States for June, 2023.
- Sikkim tops the ranking among the North Eastern States.
- Lakshadweep tops the ranking among Union Territories.
- Uttar Pradesh tops the ranking among States with more than 17,500 grievances.
- 50th GST Council meeting imposes 28% tax on online gaming firms
- The 50th GST Council has concluded in New Delhi on 11 July 2023.
- A 28% GST rate has been levied on gaming, horse racing, and casinos which affects online gaming companies.
- Pharma products like cancer drug Dinutuximab and Food for Special Medical Purposes (FSMP) are exempted from GST.
- GST exempted on satellite launch
12) Rajnath Singh inaugurates HAL’S regional office in Malaysia
- Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated the regional office of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) in Kuala Lumpur to strengthen defence industrial collaboration between India and Malaysia.
- The HAL office in Kuala Lumpur will also serve as a hub for HAL’s engagement with the wider South-East Asian region.
- Malaysia is home to the second-largest number of Persons of Indian Origin (PIO).
13) Peru declares health emergency over Guillain-Barre Syndrome outbreak
- Peru declared a health emergency due to the surge in Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), a rare neurological disorder.
- A 90-day emergency has been imposed in the country to curb the outbreak.
- GBS is a rare autoimmune disease-causing neurological disorder where the body’s immune system istakenly attacks the peripheral nerves.
- Symptoms include muscle weakness and paralysis of the whole body.
