  • 627 CE: Byzantine army under Emperor Heraclius defeated Emperor Khosrau II’s Persian forces.

1) 58 Airports have been covered under “Krishi Udan Scheme”

  • Krishi Udan Scheme was launched in August 2020 to assist farmers in transporting agricultural products.
  • The scheme currently covers 25 airports focusing on North Eastern, Hilly and Tribal region besides 33 airports in other regions/areas.
  • The scheme aims to ensure cost-effective, time-bound air transportation for all Agri-produce originating especially from Northeast, hilly and tribal areas.

 

2) Indian Forest & Wood Certification Scheme launched by MoEFCC

  • TheMinistry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change has launched the Indian Forest & Wood Certification Scheme.
  • The scheme includes forest management certification, tree outside forest management certification, and chain of custody certification.
  • Indian Institute of Forest Management, Bhopalwill act as the scheme operating agency and will be responsible for its overall management.

 

3) Russia unveiled two new nuclear-powered submarines

  • Putin inaugurated the vessels, which are named the Krasnoyarskand Emperor Alexander the Third at Sevmash shipyard in Severodvinsk in the country’s northwestern Archangelsk region.
  • He oversaw the raising of navy’s flag on the newly built nuclear submarines.
  • Each of them is armed with 16 nuclear-tipped Bulava intercontinental ballistic missiles.

 

4) Tata Power, Indian Oil Corp to co-deploy over 500 EV charging points

  • Tata Power’s subsidiary Tata Power EV Charging Solutionshas inked an agreement with India Oil Corporation Ltd. to install more than 500 fast and ultra-fast electric vehicle (EV) charging points across India.
  • Tata Power will install EV charging points across multiple IOCL retail outlets.
  • These EV charging points will be installed in major cities and across major highways and expressways.

 

5) Youth for Unnati and Vikas with AI (YUVAi) to feature in GPAI Summit

  • India is hosting the three-day annual Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence (GPAI) Summitfrom 12th to 14th December 2023 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
  • The “YUVAi”initiative, designed to equip the youth with essential AI skills is a collaborative initiative of the National e-Governance Division, under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and Intel India.

 

6) India’s 1st six lane steel slag based road constructe

  • India’sfirst six lane steel slag based road connecting NH-6 to Hazira port have been constructed at Surat Hazira using processed steel slag aggregates.
  • Ministry of Steel under the project “Development of Design Guidelines and Specifications for utilization of steel slag in road construction” is being pursued by CSIR-CRRIin association with the steel industry.

 

7) Indian Navy conducted bi-annual exercise ‘Prasthan’ off Mumbai coast

  • ‘Prasthan‘ exercise is conducted bi-annually by the Indian Navy, along with other defence state and civil agencies.
  • It was held on the R12A Platform of Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), around 83 km away from Mumbai harbour.
  • The ‘Prasthan’ is conducted to validate measures and procedures to address various contingencies that may arise in the oil production platforms.

 

8) Chandrayaan, Jawan & IPL topped in India’s 2023 Google search

  • India’s G20 presidency and Karnataka Election Results topped in ‘What Is’ search queries.
  • Top ‘How To’ searches included preventing sun damage and improving car mileage with a focus on tech and self-care.
  • Sports dominated searches with Cricket World Cup queries and Women’s Premier League ranking high.
  • Vietnam was the most searched travel destination.

 

9) International Day of Neutrality: 12th December

  • Observed annually onDecember 12, the International Day of Neutrality seeks to strengthen peace and security at a global level.
  • On December 12, 2017, the International Day of Neutrality was officially proclaimed by United Nations.
  • This day sheds light on the importance of countries adopting a neutral stance in international affairs to maintain impartiality and contribute to global security.

 

10) Donald Tusk elected as new Prime Minister of Poland

  • Members of the Polish Parliament backed Donald Tuskto become Poland’s Prime Minister after current leader Mateusz Morawiecki lost a confidence vote in the country’s Parliament.
  • Tusk previously served as the Prime Minister of Poland from 2007 to 2014 and as president of the European Council from 2014 to 2019.
  • Tusk was also the president of the European People’s Party from 2019 to 2022.

 

11) PM Modi most popular global leader with 76% approval: Morning Consult

  • Morning Consult survey,a US based intelligence company said, 76% of respondents approved PM Modi’s leadership, while only 18% disapproved.
  • Mexican leader Andres Manuel Lopez Obradorsecured 2nd place in the popularity chart with a 66% approval rating, while 29% expressed disapproval.
  • Swiss leader Alain Berset secured 3rdspot, received a 58% approval rating, with 28% expressing disapproval.

 

12) Ban Ki-moon honoured with 2023 Diwali ‘Power of One’ Awards at UN

  • Former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moonand 3 veteran diplomats were here honoured with the annual ‘Diwali Power of One Awards‘.
  • This award is hailed as the ‘Oscars of diplomacy’.
  • The other awardees are Bosnia and Herzegovina representative to the UN AmbassadorMirsada Colakovic, South Korea representative to the UN Ambassador Kim Sook, 72nd UN General Assembly president Miroslav Lajcak.

 

13) Budgett frog’s protein can block enzymes of disease-causing pathogens

  • Researchers from the Indian Institute of Sciencehave identified that peptides (short protein) produced from Budgett’s frog can combat enzymes of disease causing pathogens.
  • Frogs are the first vertebrates to conquer the land and all other vertebrates like reptiles, mammals, and birds came after the amphibians. Because of this the frogs have developed a defensive mechanism through their skin.
