1) Kishore Jena wins Indian Grand Prix 5 with throw of 82.53m

  • Kishore Jena and Amoj Jacob won gold medals at the Indian Grand Prix 5 2023 athletics in Chandigarh.
  • Jena’s best attempt, a throw of 82.53m, came on his first try.
  • Jacob won the men’s 400m race in Chandigarh with a time of 45.92s.
  • Noah Nirmal Tom claimed silver in the men’s 400m race with a time of 46.55s.
  • Vithya Ramraj won the women’s 400m gold with a time of 52.40s.

 

2) BRO to construct world’s highest fighter airfield in Ladakh’s Nyoma

  • The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) will construct the world’s highest fighter airfield in the Nyoma region of Ladakh.
  • The foundation stone of the project will be laid by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh from Devak Bridge on September 12.
  • India is proactively working towards developing infrastructure along the 3,488 Km stretch of the Line of Actual Control.

 

3) India’s Kiran George clinches Indonesia Badminton Masters title

 

  • Kiran George won the Indonesia Masters Super 100 men’s singles title on 10 September 2023, defeating Japan’s Koo Takahashi in two straight sets.
  • Kiran also won the Odisha Open in 2022 for his maiden Super 100 title.
  • Kiran trains at the Prakash Padukone Academy in Bengaluru.
  • Earlier this year, Kiran defeated Chinese star Shi Yuqi and Weng Hong Yang at the Thailand Open.

 

4) Army doctor awarded Dr AM Gokhale award for ophthalmology in Pune.

  • Renowned ophthalmologist Brigadier Sanjay Kumar Mishra of the Indian Army’s Research and Referral Hospital was conferred with the prestigious ” Dr AM Gokhale Award” in Pune.
  • Dr AM Gokhale was a renowned teacher of ophthalmology in India.
  • Sanjay Kumar Mishra has performed surgeries on two serving Presidents of India.
  • Ophthalmology deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders.

 

5) Coco Gauff becomes first American teen to win US Open title since 1999

  • Coco Gauff has become the first American teenager to win the US Open title since Serena Williams in 1999.
  • Gauff’s win was her 12th successive victory and third title in 40 days.
  • Serena Williams was the last American teenager to win the US Open singles title in 1999.
  • Gauff has defeated Sabalenka once in each of the last four years, which no one else has done.

 

6) Australia dethrones Pakistan to clinch top ODI ranking

  • Australia has reclaimed the top spot in the ICC Men’s ODI rankings by defeating South Africa in the second ODI of the three-match series.
  • With this win, Australia has 121 points on the Men’s ODI Team Rankings points table, one ahead of Pakistan who are on 120.
  • India, with 114 rating points, are third on the ICC rankings.

  • The Madhya Pradesh cabinet has decided to implement the Madhya Pradesh Mob Lynching Victim Compensation Scheme 2023.
  • The scheme will provide relief and rehabilitation to the victims of mob lynching.
  • The Madhya Pradesh govt will provide 10L compensation to families of mob lynching victims.
  • The scheme covers any act of violence on grounds of religion, caste, sex, and place of birth.
  • G20 Leaders Summit adopts New Delhi Declaration

 

8) The New Delhi Declaration was

  • adopted with 100% consensus on all
  • developmental and geo-political issues.
  • India proposed a new text on the Ukraine crisis to break the deadlock over the Delhi Declaration.
  • The Declaration broadly focuses on 5 key areas i.e. Strong, Sustainable, Balanced, and Inclusive Growth, and Accelerating Progress on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

 

9) India-Middle East-Europe mega economic corridor announced

  • The G20 Summit announced the launch of the India-Middle East-Europe economic corridor.
  • The economic corridor will include shipping and railway links, making trade between India and Europe 40% faster.
  • It aims to boost trade, transport energy resources, and improve digital connectivity.
  • The corridor involves countries like India, UAE, Saudi Arabia, EU, France, Italy, Germany, and the US.

 

10) G20 leaders adopt green development pact

  • G20 leaders adopted a green development pact to accelerate the steps needed to tackle the challenges of environment and climate change.
  • The pact aims to pursue environmentally sustainable and inclusive economic growth and development in an integrated, holistic and balanced manner.
  • The green development pact was achieved with the support of every nation.

 

11) IIT Council signs MoU with Association of American Universities

  • The IIT Council and the Association of American Universities (AAU) have signed an MoU to establish the Indo-US Global Challenges Institute.
  • The institute will comprise a virtual network of partner universities and provide a platform to address strategic research programs.
  • IIT Bombay has also joined the Chicago Quantum Exchange as an international partner.

 

12) UK PM Rishi Sunak announces $2 bn aid for Green Climate Fund

  • UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has pledged $2 billion to the UN’s Green Climate Fund (GFC) to support vulnerable countries in dealing with climate change.
  • G20 leaders also adopted a ‘green development pact’ aimed at speeding up measures to tackle the challenges of environment and climate change.
  • The UK has pledged to spend $14.4 billion on international climate finance from 2021-26.

 

13) G20 leaders endorses Goa Roadmap and ‘Travel for LiFE’ program

  • G20 leaders endorse Goa Roadmap and ‘Travel for LIFE’ program to boost the tourism sector significantly.
  • The ‘Goa Roadmap for Tourism’ is a comprehensive strategy to align tourism policies with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030.
  • The Ministry of Tourism aims to facilitate the implementation of the GOA Roadmap through education and awareness campaigns.

 

14) ICG participates in 19th Heads of Asian Coast Guard Agencies meeting

  • Indian Coast Guard (ICG) participated in the 19th Heads of Asian Coast Guard Agencies Meeting (HACGAM) from 05-08 Sep 2023 at Istanbul, Türkiye.
  • The forum comprises four Working Groups to enable a focused and goal-oriented approach.
  • Indian Coast Guard is the chair of the Search and Rescue (SAR) Working Group.
  • The last edition of the HACGAM was held in New Delhi in 2022.

 

15) UP govt to conduct exams to test learning outcomes of children

  • The Uttar Pradesh government is organizing the Nipun Assessment Test (NAT) for classes 1-8 from September 11 to 16.
  • Students in classes 1-5 will be assessed in language and Mathematics, while those in classes 6-8 will be assessed in Mathematics and Science.
  • The exam will be conducted through the ‘Saral App’ and children will answer questions on OMR sheets.

 

16) ISRO’s Aditya L1 successfully performs 3rd earth-bound manoeuvre

  • Aditya-L1, India’s first solar mission, has successfully performed the third earth-bound manoeuvre.
  • The new orbit attained by the satellite is 296km x 71767 km.
  • A total of five such orbit manoeuvring will be performed during the satellite’s revolution around the Earth of which three have been successfully performed.
