1) Himachal Pradesh becomes the first to approve a policy for drones

  • The Himachal Pradesh government has given nod to a drone policy as it seeks to enable the use of drones and similar technology for different public services in the hill state.
  • The ‘Himachal Pradesh Drone Policy 2022’ was approved by the CM Jai Ram Thakur.
  • With this new drone policy, Himachal Pradesh has become the first state in the country to formally acknowledge the public use of drones.

 

2) India’s FDI rank rises to 7th position in 2021

  • India jumped one position to 7th among the top recipients of foreign direct investment (FDI) in 2021 according to a report released by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
  • The US ($367 billion) remained the top recipient of FDI, while China ($181 billion) and Hong Kong ($141 billion) retained 2nd and 3rd positions respectively. India ($45 billion) is on 7th.

 

3) Manish Narwal, Singhraj Adhana win silver medals in 50 m pistol event

  • Manish Narwal and Singhraj Adhana won silver medals at the Mixed Team 50m Pistol SH1 event in the ongoing Chateauroux Para-Shooting World Cup on 9 June 2022 in France.
  • With this, India’s medal tally now includes three golds and two silver medals.
  • Earlier, on 8 June 2022, the Indian duo of Manish Narwal and Rubina Francis clinched the gold medal in the P6-10m Air Pistol Mixed event.

 

4) PM Modi inaugurates development projects worth over Rs 3,000 crore

  • PM Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of multiple development initiatives over 3,000 crore rupees in Gujarat, on 10 June 2022.
  • This includes the inauguration of seven projects, foundation stone laying for 12 projects.
  • These projects will help in improving the water supply in the region, along with boosting connectivity and enhancing the ease of living.

 

5) Rajnath Singh hands over 12 High Speed Guard Boats to Vietnam

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on 9 June 2022 handed over 12 High-Speed Guard Boats to Vietnam during his visit to Hong Ha Shipyard in Hai Phong.
  • The boats have been constructed under the Indian Government’s 100 million US dollar Defence Line of Credit to Vietnam.
  • The Defence Minister is on a 3-day official visit to Vietnam and both countries also signed a ‘vision statement’ on 7 June 2022.

 

6) Ramkrishna Mukkavilli: 1st Indian to be recognised as GSDG Pioneer

  • Ramkrishna Mukkavilli has become the first Indian to be recognised as the Global Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) Pioneer for water stewardship by the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC).
  • It is for the first time that an Indian has been recognised for the position.
  • The Sustainable Development Goals are a collection of 17 global goals, set up in 2015 by the United Nations General Assembly.

 

7) Doordarshan’s DG Mayank Agrawal appointed as Prasar Bharati CEO

  • Mayank Kumar Agrawal, director-general, Doordarshan was given additional charge as chief executive officer, Prasar Bharati on 9 June 2022.
  • Agrawal takes over from Shashi Shekhar Vempati who completed his five-year tenure as CEO of the public broadcaster.
  • Prasar Bharati is India’s public broadcaster and has headquarters in New Delhi.
  • It was founded on 23 November 1997.

 

8) Government launches Rashtriya Puruskar Portal

  • The Union Government has launched the Rashtriya Puruskar Portal for inviting nominations for various awards of the various Ministries, Departments, and agencies.
  • This common portal has been developed by the government to bring together all the awards under one digital platform.
  • Presently nominations and recommendations for Padma Awards are open till 15 September 2022.

9) Abu Dhabi Investment Authority to buy 20% stakes in IIFL Home Finance

  • A wholly-owned subsidiary of Abu Dhabi Investment Authority has signed a definitive agreement to buy 20% stake in IIFL Home Finance Limited for Rs 2,200 cr.
  • This would be one of the largest equity investments in the affordable housing finance segment in India by a financial investor.
  • IIFL Home Finance Limited is a wholly-owned subsidiary of non-banking financial company IIFL Finance Limited.

 

10) World Accreditation Day: 9 June

  • World Accreditation Day is observed on June 9 every year.
  • It is a joint initiative by the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC) and International Accreditation Forum (IAF).
  • It is observed to promote the role of accreditation in trade & the economy.
  • The theme for 2022 is ‘Accreditation: Sustainability in Economic Growth and the Environment.’

 

11) NASA to launch 3 rockets from private Australian space port

  • NASA will launch a research rocket from remote northern Australia in June 2022 in the agency’s first blast off from a commercial space port outside the United States.
  • Three suborbital-sounding rockets will be launched from the Arnhem Space Center from Nhulunbuy in the Northern Territory on June 26, July 4, and 12.
  • The rockets would focus on the Alpha Centauri A and B star systems.

 

12) India launches its first COVID-19 vaccine for animals

  • On June 9, Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar launched Anocovax.
  • It is India’s first homegrown COVID-19 vaccine for animals, produced by the ICAR-National Research Centre on Equines (NRCE) in Haryana.
  • The vaccine uses Alhydrogel as an adjuvant and contains inactivated SARS-CoV-2 (Delta) antigen.
  • It is also safe for dogs, lions, leopards, mice, and bunnies, according to the company.

 

13) IISM launches India’s first-ever book on Sports Marketing

  • International Institute of Sports Management (IISM) has launched India’s first-ever book on Sports Marketing.
  • The book is authored by Sports Marketeer Vinit Karnik & is the first in a series to be launched as part of a knowledge series.
  • The first book titled ‘Business of Sports: The Winning Formula for Success’ was launched on 6 June 2022 by Bhagat Singh Koshiyari, Governor of Maharashtra.

 

14) Fitch upgrades India outlook to stable, from negative

  • Fitch Ratings has revised the outlook on India’s long-term foreign-currency issuer default rating (IDR) to stable, from negative, and has affirmed the rating at ‘BBB
  • Fitch forecasts India’s GDP growth to remain robust at 7.8% in FY23.
  • However, it is a downward revision from its 8.5% forecast in March due to global commodity price shocks.

 

15) Tamil Nadu CM unveils mascot and logo for FIDE Chess Olympiad

  • Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin unveiled the mascot and the logo named ‘Thambi’ for FIDE Chess Olympiad in Chennai on 10 June 2022.
  • ‘Thambi’ in Tamil means younger brother.
  • The international event will be held at Mamallapuram near Chennai from 28th July to August 10, 2022.
  • Over two thousand players from 186 countries will be taking part in the event.
