1) PM Modi inaugurates Deoghar Airport in Jharkhand

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Deoghar airport in Jharkhand on 12 July 2022.
  • It has been constructed at a cost of Rs 401 crore.
  • He also inaugurated the revamped Baba Baidyanathdham temple area under Prasad scheme of Ministry of Tourism.
  • He also inaugurated 13 development projects and laid foundation stones for 12 development schemes worth over 16000 crore Rupees.

 

2) Star Health partners with Meity to reach rural markets

  • Star Health and Allied Insurance Co. Ltd. has partnered with Common Services Centres (CSC), under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY).
  • It will provide over 5 lakh CSCs access to a select range of Star Health insurance products.
  • These products have been designed to meet the needs of rural customers across the tier-II, tier-III cities, and rural markets pan India.

 

3) Pradhan Mantri National Apprenticeship Mela begins

  • The Pradhan Mantri National Apprenticeship Mela began on July 11, 2022.
  • It was organised by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, as part of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Skill India Mission.
  • It featured 36 sectors and more than 1000 companies and 500 distinct sorts of trades.
  • The ministry hosted the event across 200 plus locations.

 

4) NASA releases first full-color image captured by James Telescope

  • The first full-color image from NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope was released on 11 July 2022.
  • It provides glimpses of what the early Universe looked like.
  • It is the clearest image to date of the early universe, going back 13 billion years.
  • The image showed thousands of galaxies and some of the faintest objects observed.
  • It was captured by the James Webb Space Telescope.

 

5) Meena Hemchandra appointed as part-time Chairman of Karur Vyasya Bank

  • Reserve Bank of India has approved the appointment of former RBI executive Meenal Hemchandra as part-time Chairman of Karur Vysya Bank for three years.
  • In May 2022, the bank had recommended. Hemchandra’s candidature for the position of non-executive independent (part-time) chairperson of the bank to the RBI for approval.
  • Hemchandra was the Executive Director of RBI from June 2015 to Nov 2017.

 

6) PM Modi to participate in first 12U2 leaders Virtual Summit

  • PM Narendra Modi will participate in the first 12U2 (India-Israel-UAE-USA) Leaders’ Virtual Summit on 14 July 2022.
  • PM of Israel Yair Lapid, President of the UAE Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and President of the USA Joseph R. Biden will also participate in it.
  • The 12U2 Grouping was conceptualized during the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of the four countries held on 18th October 2021.

 

7) Avdhash Kaushal, noted social worker & Padma Shri awardee, passes away

  • Noted social worker and Padma Shri awardee Avdhash Kaushal passed away on 12 July 2022 at the age of 87.
  • Kaushal founded an NGO named ‘Rural Litigation and Entitlement Kendra’ which fought for human rights and the conservation of the environment.
  • He is credited with bringing mining activities to an end in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand in the 1980s.
  • He was awarded a Padma Shri in 1986.

 

8) International Malala Day: 12 July

  • The International Malala Day is celebrated on 12 July on the occasion of young activist Malala Yousafzai’s birthday.
  • On 12 July 2013, the 16-year-old Pakistani activist delivered a moving speech at the headquarters of United Nations.
  • At the age of 17 years, Yousufzai was the youngest recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize since it came into existence in 1901.

 

9) Arjun Babuta wins first gold medal at ISSF World Cup in South Korea

  • In Shooting, India’s Arjun Babuta have won his first gold medal at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup stage at Changwon in South Korea.
  • He defeated Tokyo 2020 silver medallist Lucas Kozeniesky of the USA 17-9 in the final on 11 July 2022.
  • Arjun had also topped the eight-men ranking. round with a score of 261.1.
  • Israel’s Sergey Richter settled for bronze.

 

10) DCGI approves India’s first indigenously developed HPV vaccine

  • Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) on 12 July 2022 approved the country’s first indigenously developed Human Papillomavirus Vaccine (HPV) against cervical cancer.
  • This vaccine has been developed by the Serum Institute of India.
  • Cervical cancer is the second most frequent cancer among women between 15 and 44 years of age with a high death ratio in India.

11) ‘Order of the Rising Sun’ award conferred on Narayanan Kumar

  • Vice Chairman of the Chennai-based Sanmar Group Narayanan Kumar has been conferred with the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star by the Govt of Japan.
  • He has been awarded for his contribution to strengthening economic relations between Japan and India.
  • Mr Kumar is also the Chairman of the Indo-Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

 

12) Jharkhand secures 1st rank in Delta Ranking for RURBAN Mission

  • Jharkhand has topped in the delta ranking of Syama Prasad Mookerjee Rurban Mission with a composite score of 76.19 in the month of June 2022.
  • With this, the state has improved its position to eighth place in the overall ranking of the mission.
  • The Centre had launched this mission in 2016 with the objective of stimulating local economic development and creating well-planned Rurban clusters.

 

13) Uttarakhand becomes first state to implement NEP at pre-primary level

  • Uttarakhand on 12 July 2022 became the 1st state in the country to initiate the process of implementing the Centre’s New Education Policy (NEP).
  • Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami initiated this process by inaugurating ‘Bal Vatikas’ at Anganwadi kendras across the state to strengthen the pre-primary education system.
  • These ‘Bal Vatikas’ will function at 4,457 Anganwadi kendras in the state.

 

14) India bags 22 medals in Asian U-20 Wrestling Championships

  • India bagged 22 medals including four gold in the Asian U-20 Wrestling Championships in Manama, Bahrain.
  • Besides the four gold medals, India claimed nine silver and nine bronze medals in the event.
  • Among the 22 medals, the women’s team won 10 medals including 3 gold through Priyanka, Arju and Antrim.
  • Freestyle wrestler Sujeet won the fourth gold medal for India in the 65kg weight class.

 

15) China launches global naming event for its newest solar observatory

  • The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) has initiated a global name collection for the country’s newest solar observatory.
  • It will be launched into a sun-synchronous orbit in October 2022.
  • The 888-kilogram observatory has a half-tonne precursor, “Xihe,” a Chinese H-alpha Solar Explorer (CHASE), named after the sun goddess in ancient Chinese mythology.

 

16) Ola Electric unveils indigenous Li-ion cell

  • Bengaluru-based electric two-wheeler maker Ola Electric on 12 July 2022 unveiled India’s first indigenously developed lithium-ion cell – NMC 2170.
  • Ola will begin the mass production of this cell from its Chennai-based Gigafactory by 2023.
  • The company was recently allocated 20GWh capacity under the ACC PLI scheme by the Government of India for developing advanced cells in the country.
