1) Haryana launches scheme for fodder growers
- Haryana Agriculture Minister J P Dalal launched the ‘Chaara-Bijaee Yojana’ scheme in May 2022.
- If a farmer grows fodder on up to 10 acres of land around the cowsheds and provides it to them through mutual consent, the state govt will provide financial assistance to such farmers at the rate of Rs 10,000 per acre.
- The amount will be transferred to the bank accounts of farmers.
2) ‘The Struggle for Police Reforms in India’ book released
- In May 2022, Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu released a book, ‘The Struggle for Police Reforms in India!
- It has been authored by former IPS officer Prakash Singh.
- He also flagged certain issues that need to be addressed on a war footing, including filling up vacancies in police departments and strengthening the police infrastructure in tune with the requirements of modern age policing.
3) Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla launches Kalam website
- Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has formally launched the Kalam website.
- It is a literary initiative of the Prabha Khaitan Foundation to support and encourage vernacular literature.
- The aim of Kalam is to popularize Hindi literature and provide a platform for veteran and young authors and poets to talk about their writings and love for vernacular literature.
4) Arunachal inks pact with Creduce and Hydel Consultants Private Limited
- The Arunachal Pradesh government has signed an MoU with Creduce and Hydel Consultants Private Limited (HCPL) for the cultivation and development of bamboo resources in the state.
- This is the world’s largest bamboo cultivation drive by a public-private partnership.
- The agreement encompasses the plantation of 100,000 hectares of forest and village land with bamboo, also called ‘green gold!
5) NSDL arm gets SEBI approval to set up an accreditation agency
- NSDL Database Management Ltd (NDML) has been granted recognition as an accreditation agency by the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI).
- NDML is a wholly-owned subsidiary of National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL).
- The recognition to NDML has been granted for a period of three years with effect from May 10, 2022.
6) Aruna Singh takes additional charge as CMD of Rail Tel Corp.
- Aruna Singh has taken over as the additional charge of the post of Chairman and Managing Director of RailTel Corporation of India Limited (RCIL) on 11 May 2022.
- She is presently working as Additional Member (Telecom) in the Railway Board.
- Singh is an officer of 1985 batch of Indian Railway Service of Signal Engineers.
- RailTel Corporation of India Ltd. is an Indian. public sector enterprise.
7) India elected as new Chair of AAEA for 2022-24
- India has been unanimously elected as the new Chair of the Association of Asian Election Authorities (AAEA) for 2022-2024.
- It was elected at the meeting of the Executive Board and General Assembly in Manila, Philippines.
- The mission of the AAEA is to provide a non-partisan forum in the Asian region for sharing experiences and best practices among election authorities.
8) IBM partners with AWS to offer broad array of IBM Software as SaaS
- IBM has signed a first-of-its-kind agreement with Amazon Web Services (AWS).
- It will offer a broad array of its software catalog as Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) on AWS.
- As part of the Strategic Collaboration Agreement (SCA), IBM and AWS will provide clients with quick and easy access to IBM Software that spans automation, data and Al, security, and sustainability capabilities.
9) India-Oman Joint Commission Meeting held in New Delhi
- The India-Oman Joint Commission Meeting was held in New Delhi on 11 May 2022.
- The meeting was co-chaired by Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal and Minister of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion of the Sultanate of Oman Qais bin Mohammed al Yousef.
- On May 12, 2022, a meeting of the India-Oman Joint Business Council (JBC) will also be jointly organised.
10) Tata Technologies signs pact with Assam govt to transform polytechnics
- Tata Technologies Ltd has entered into a collaboration with the Assam government to transform 34 state polytechnics and 43 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIS).
- They will be transformed into futuristic Centres of Excellence with an investment of about Rs 2,390 crore.
- The company has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Assam government for a period of 10 years for the purpose.

11) HDFC Bank launches 30-minute Xpress Car Loan
- HDFC Bank has launched ‘Xpress Car Loans’
- It is an end-to-end digital new car loan journey for existing customers as well as non-customers.
- The bank has integrated its lending application with automobile dealers across the country.
- This will help simplify the car purchase process and drive car sales across the country, including in semi-urban and rural areas.
12) Yoon Suk Yeol sworn in as President of South Korea
- Yoon Suk Yeol was sworn in as President on 10 May 2022 ushering in the country’s first conservative government in five years.
- Yoon, a former prosecutor, won the election in March 2022.
- Predecessor Moon Jae-in pursued a policy of engagement with the North holding a summit with Kim in 2018.
- He also brokered two summits between Kim and then-United States President Donald Trump
13) Leading Oil PSUS come together to sign Tripartite-cum-Escrow Agreement
- The Oil Marketing Companies (OMCS) – Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL), Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL) and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) have entered into at long-term purchase agreement (LTPA).
- This is for upcoming dedicated ethanol plants across India.
- SBI, Indian Overseas Bank and Indian Bank are three banks who are involved in this tripartite agreement.
14) Supreme Court puts 152-year-old colonial-era sedition law on hold
- The Supreme Court has ordered that the 152-year-old sedition law under Section 124A of the Indian Penal Code should be effectively kept in abeyance till the Union Government reconsiders the provision.
- The Court also held that those already booked under Section 124A IPC and are in jail can approach the concerned courts for bail.
15) Worldline India partners with Bank of India to digitise e-challan
- Worldline, a payment services firm, has partnered with the Bank of India.
- A Memorandum of Association was signed between BOI and the police department to integrate Point of Sale (POS) terminals with the e-challan portal of the police department on 10 May 2022.
- Three zones namely Jabalpur, Rewa, and Shahdol covering 12 districts in MP will be covered in this initiative.
16) Morgan Stanley cuts India’s GDP growth forecast for FY23 and FY24
- Morgan Stanley has trimed India’s gross domestic product (GDP) growth forecasts to 7.6% for F2023 and to 6.7% for F2024.
- Further, a slowdown in global growth, higher commodity prices,and potential risk aversion in global capital markets expose India to downside risks.
- It also expects global growth to average 2.9% YoY in 2022 slowing from 6.2% growth in CY21.
17) PM Modi to participate in second global Covid-19 Summit on 12 May
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be participating in the second global Covid Summit on 12 May 2022 at the invitation of US President Joe Biden.
- PM Modi will deliver his remarks on the theme – Preventing Pandemic Fatigue and Prioritizing Preparedness.
- He had participated in the first global virtual summit on Covid-19 also, hosted by Biden on September 22, 2021.
18) Prasar Bharati, ORTM sign MoU on cooperation in broadcasting
- An MoU on cooperation and collaboration in Broadcasting between Prasar Bharati and ORTM (Office de la Radio et de la Television) was signed in Madagascar’s capital Antananarivo on 10 May 2022.
- Madagascar National Television (TVM) will broadcast programmes from internal productions of Prasar Bharati in the fields of culture, education, etc.
- Both sides will explore co-production opportunities.
